In collaboration with the University of New Mexico College of Fine Arts, the Center will host Nevada-based artist Justin Favela as he presents his lecture “Give It a Rest: A Latinx Artist in Repose.” The lecture is based on Favela’s recently completed durational performance Reposo: A Hispanic Artist Rests For The Entirety Of Hispanic Heritage Month.
This event is part of the 2023-24 Gale Memorial Lecture Series: “Disobedient Gestures: Afro-Latinx and Queer Latinx Artist against the Grain.”

Bio: Based in Las Vegas, Nevada, and known for large-scale installations and sculptures that manifest his interactions with American pop culture and the Latinx experience, Justin Favela has exhibited his work both internationally and across the United States. His installations have been commissioned by museums including the Denver Art Museum in Colorado and Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Arkansas. He is the recipient of the 2018 Alan Turing LGTBIQ Award for International Artist. Justin recently completed a durational performance, titled Reposo: A Hispanic Artist Rests For The Entirety Of Hispanic Heritage Month, at the National Hispanic Cultural Center.
