In a small Castilian village in 1940, in the wake of Spain’s devastating civil war, six-year-old Ana attends a traveling movie showing of the 1931 version of Frankenstein. Fascinated with the monster, and convinced by her older sister that he lives in a deserted sheepfold nearby, she believes that she has met him when a fugitive Republican soldier takes refuge in the structure.
