The celebration of Todos Santos in Candelaria, a small farming and weaving community in the southern Andes of Bolivia, is the Yampara culture’s version of Day of the Dead, when the souls of the deceased return to visit their families and partake of the feast celebrated in their honor. Todos Santos serves specific functions to promote well-being within families and communities, reassuring members of their ties to the land and their culture.
Presented in partnership with Metamorfosis Documentation Project, a non-profit organization documenting and supporting cross-cultural rituals and dances in the Americas through collaborative projects with mestizo and indigenous communities, in order to preserve these traditions within the communities and share them with a wider audience.
