Eleven-year-old Chava suddenly becomes the man of the house after his father abandons the family in the middle of El Salvador’s bloody civil war, at a time when 12-year-old boys are forced by the national army to fight against the guerrillas. The film is based on screenwriter Oscar Torres’ own experiences of growing up in a mountain village in El Salvador during the war. Presented as part of the Bank of America Free Thursday Film Series.
