This trilogy of one-act plays is written by Barelas resident playwrights Raúl Garza, Leonard Madrid and Mónica Sánchez, and inspired by the history, dreams and musings of one of Albuquerque’s oldest neighborhoods. This trilogy has been developed with the support of Artful Life’s El Puente/Barelas project and in partnership with the NHCC and Homewise.

The playwrights:
Raúl Garza is a Barelas-inspired playwright who tells stories that resound with culture, identify, and sense of place. His full-length play, Fantasmaville, received the National Latino Playwriting Award. When not writing, Raúl explores kundalini yoga, devours pop culture, and travel beyond his means. www.theraulito.com.
Leonard Madrid works as a designer, actor, playwright, and educator in Albuquerque. His plays, Tecolotito, Perla, and Aurora, have received a Kennedy Center’s Award for Latino Playwrights. Other plays have received readings and performances around the nation. www.leonardmadrid.org.
Mónica Sánchez has followed her bliss toward a life in the theatre and the theatre of life. She has been a professional theatre maker for the last three decades and happily resides in Barelas. This fall she will join the faculty at Colorado College as Assistant Professor of Playwriting and Performance. www.dramatista.com.
