Festival Flamenco Alburquerque 39: María Pagés-De Scheherezade

De Scheherezade is a large-scale flamenco work by María Pagés Compañía, co-created with dramaturg El Arbi El Harti. Beginning where the tale of the Thousand and One Nights ends, De Scheherezade reframes Scheherezade as “one woman, all women.” Across 12 choreographic chapters, a collective female protagonist moves between solos and choral tableaux, set to live music that places flamenco in dialogue with classical, popular, and Moroccan traditions. Audiences experience a portrait of women as storytellers and agents: rhythmic, physical, and ensemble-driven, with the word and the body as tools for survival. U.S. Premiere.
