This “instant camp classic” is set in a TV studio, where the advance taping of a New Year’s Eve special is fraught with difficulties. A crane falls on an extra; there are riots and protests outside the studio; a hunky singer is being blackmailed by two girl-crush fans; an aging crooner is targeted for assassination by his adopted son and manager; and two extras fall in love, even though the woman seems to be a bad-luck charm. “A manic farce of schlubs and monsters, professional one-upsmanship and assassination.” Presented in partnership with Instituto Cervantes as part of the Bank of America Free Thursday Film Series.
2015; Álex de la Iglesia; Spanish with English subtitles; 100 minutes; not rated.
