In 1944, as Franco consolidates his hold on the country, Ofelia and her pregnant mother are sent to live in rural Spain with her new stepfather, a ruthless army captain charged with purging the last rebels from the area. Trying to come to terms with the cruelty around her, Ofelia escapes into a mysterious fantasy world, where she must prove herself the true princess of an underground realm devoid of lies or pain. Directed by Guillermo del Toro; presented in partnership with Instituto Cervantes.
