8 pm—Friday & Saturday
This powerful, poignant show features accomplished flamenco artists Marisol and Joaquin Encinias, singer Vicente Griego, guitarist Calvin Hazen, and members of Yjastros: The American Flamenco Repertory Company, directed by Joaquin Encinias.
Yjastros 30th Season will astound and delight with exquisite selections from the company’s repertory as they blend intricate rhythms, delirious melodies, and an uncanny elegance on a stage where impossible feats become reality. Audiences will share an intimate experience of the strength, stamina, grace, and artistry needed to practice flamenco, as well as the deep communication among the artists who create it.
The show presents works by artists from Spain, featuring Gala Vivancos, Javier LaTorre, Valeriano Paños, Alfonso Losa, and Olga Pericet. The original staging of these works was made possible through a unique dance residence program created by the University of New Mexico in partnership with the National Institute of Flamenco; the works were then taken and re-staged by Joaquin Encinias.
