6 pm to 8:15 pm 6 pm to 7:15 pm—Beginning and Intermediate Class. No experience is necessary to participate in this class. 7:15 pm to 8:15 pm—Advanced Class In order to participate in this class, dancers must come to at least one 6 pm class and be familiar with the vocabulary and movement introduced in these classes. Carnaval Celebration 2020

7:30 pm—Friday & Saturday Carnaval, the festive season occurring before Lent in many countries, is one of the world’s most widespread celebrations and one of its biggest parties. Frank Leto Musical Ventures and the NHCC continue their annual partnership to celebrate Carnaval at the Center with a festive and colorful evening of music, dance, and theatre, featuring the Odara Dance Ensemble and the musical group PANdemonium. Thursday-Saturday, March 5-7, 2020 7 pm—Thursday & Friday 2 pm—Saturday The Public Academy for Performing Arts (PAPA) presents Vision, its annual spring dance concert featuring beginning to pre-professional ballet, contemporary, flamenco, hip-hop, musical theatre, and jazz dance students from grades 6-12. Approximate length of the event is two hours. $7, $12, $17 The event is a rental event not an NHCC production. Mapitzmitl Xiukwetzpaltin (PAZ) Presents Tonal Machiotl/Piedra del Sol/Aztec Calendar

11 am This is the first of a series of workshops about the Aztec calendar, covering a range of subject matter pertaining to this indigenous timekeeping device that was rediscovered in Mexico City in 1790. It is an overview of the calendar; participants will be shown the meaning of the calendar’s different concentric rings, which are used to chart solar, ceremonial, and Venutian years. Yankwik Xiwitl/Año Nuevo Azteca/Aztec New Year

Please call the NHCC at 505-246-2261 for more information. 10 am; dancing begins at approximately 12 pm Join us as Kalpulli Ehecatl and Kalpulli Izkalli host Yankwik Xiwitl, or Mexika/Aztec New Year, on the NHCC's Plaza Mayor. The free public event, ushering in Chikyei Tekpatl/Ocho Pedernal/Eight Stone Blade, features fire making with a hand drill, an offering of flowers and fruit, and ritual Aztec dancing.
