MARAVILLA: UNA NOCHE EN COLOMBIA 2017

6 pm – 12 am In 2017, the National Hispanic Cultural Center Foundation’s signature fundraising event, Maravilla, presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico, will highlight the vibrant and rich culture of Colombia. Maravilla provides direct support to the NHCC and its Foundation to promote, preserve and advance Hispanic arts, culture and humanities, while providing a unique cultural experience to attendees. Founded in 1988, DanzAbierta (translated as “open dance”) is a pioneer in Cuba’s avant-garde dance movement. Now under the leadership of artistic director and choreographer Susana Pous Anadón and dramatic art advisor and technical director Guido Gali, the award-winning ensemble has become one of Havana’s most prominent dance companies. Aki Matsuri (Japanese Fall Festival) 2017 (Rental)

10 am to 5 pm Celebrate the NMJACL’s annual fall festival Aki Matsuri on Sunday, September 17th featuring Japanese cultural exhibits, vendor fair, musical demonstrations, Japanese art, Japanese food, Beer and Sake tastings and more! The New Mexico Japanese-American Citizens League (NMJACL) has been hosting Aki Matsuri (trans.: fall festival) for over twenty years. The festival is the main annual event for NMJACL and serves as a venue to share Japanese and Japanese-American (JA) culture with all of New Mexico. ¡Globalquerquito! – A mini-fest for Albuquerque School Kids

10 am We'd like to let you in on a little secret. Each year, ¡Globalquerque! kicks off with a free concert for our local school kids. This mini-fest features two of our regular performers doing short sets as a way to introduce the kids to some cool different cultures. This year the participating bands are Trad.Attack! ¡Globalquerque! 2017

4 pm ¡Globalquerque!, New Mexico's 13th Annual World Music & Culture Celebration, returns to the National Hispanic Cultural Center on September 22 and 23, 2017. This year's festival features three stages of music from five continents over two nights. Relax in the intimate courtyard setting of the Fountain Stage, enjoy larger bands in the state-of-the-art 691-seat Journal Theatre, or dance to groove-heavy world music on the Plaza Mayor’s outdoor Festival Stage. ¡Salud y Sabor! Día de los Muertos/México

5:30 pm to 7:30 pm Salud y Sabor, a partnership between the Agri-cultura Network, Street Food Institute, and the NHCC, is a free evening of food, art, and entertainment aimed at providing families with an opportunity to connect around nutrition, cooking, healthy lifestyles, and culture. Once a month, community members gather for cooking demonstrations using fresh, locally grown ingredients, as well as fun art activities for kids and adults, health screenings, and live entertainment. Join the NHCC and experienced, knowledgeable local artists to learn about the meaning of this celebration, the traditional arts and crafts associated with the celebration and development of ofrendas that honor families and individuals. Shoes for the Santo Niño

6:30 pm to 8:30 pm The NHCC Library would like to introduce you to its recently acquired Latin Dance Book Collection, made possible through a grant from the New Mexico Library Foundation. Join us Tuesday December 5th from 6:30-8:30 pm to view the books, make free photocopies from the collection, and enjoy a dance demonstration by the Rueda505 dancers at 6:45 pm.
