  • 23rd Annual César Chávez Day

    10:30 am - Marcha 12 pm – Fiesta Join the 23rd annual César Chávez Day celebration, with a march beginning at 10:30 am and ending at noon at the National Hispanic Cultural Center’s Plaza Mayor.  Following the march, the family fiesta at the Center includes poetry, dancing, community awards and exhibits, children’s activities, food, a keynote speech by Carlos Marentes, and live music by Las Cafeteras.   • Flamenco en la Voz de Cervantes: Miguel de Cervantes Celebration with Fernando Barros Lirola and Company

    Pre-show reading—6 pm Performance—7 pm Commemorate the 400th anniversary of Miguel de Cervantes’ death with a special flamenco recital, performed by singer and composer Fernando Barros Lirola and his company. The performance will combine music and dance in an exploration of Cervantes’ major work, Don Quixote, and a tribute to the flamenco tradition, one of the most revered in Spanish culture.   • REZILIENCE 2016—Indigenous Arts Experience

    9 am—Gates Open 5 pm—Main Concert REZILIENCE—Indigenous Arts Experience is an immersive, all-ages experience that focuses on modern Indigenous art processes. Artists include both nationally and locally recognized entertainers, muralists, multimedia artists, and poets.     8 pm Festival Flamenco Internacional de Alburquerque presents Compañía Manuel Liñán in Nómada. Featuring three bailaoras, three bailaores, three singers, and two guitarists, the work is a “collective journey” framing the art of flamenco in different geographic regions and different textures.
