SUMMARY:Festival Flamenco Alburquerque 37: Eduardo Guerrero: Bailar no es Solo Bailar
DESCRIPTION:8:00 pm \nNational Institute of Flamenco & the NHCC present Eduardo Guerrero y Compañía in the U.S. premiere of Bailar no es Solo Bailar. \nThe incredible Cádiz-born Eduardo Guerrero brings Bailar no es Solo Bailar to the stage\, a work full of profound expression. Guerrero aims to dive into the basics in a humble\, simple way\, without distracting artifacts and observe what happens when we let the minimal invade us\, that innocent dance of the beginning returns to our body – what happens when we eliminate all the subterfuge to see how the body beats and honestly gives into itself to blur and melt. He returns to Flamenco as catharsis\, as a language to unburden the heart and let the soul free. To return to Flamenco as a collective communion and sacred meeting\, as a vehicle that brought us to the here and now and from which we will return to the before. \n$55\, $70\, $85\, $100 & $115\n* This price includes a $4/ticket NHCC fee

SUMMARY:Festival Flamenco Alburquerque 37: Mercedes de Córdoba y Compañía: Sí\, Quiero
DESCRIPTION:8:00 pm \nNational Institute of Flamenco & the NHCC present Mercedes de Córdoba y Compañía in Sí\, Quiero \nConsidered one of the most powerful and authentic dancers of her generation\, Mercedes de Córdoba brings her celebratory personal work to the U.S. for the first time. Sí\, Quiero is a categorical answer that admits no doubt. An anachronistic oath\, and a forceful and necessary cry that vindicates commitment as a revolutionary act. This beautiful work reaffirms the act of wanting through an artistic discovery of what one is and what one feels. It presents a ceremony that celebrates life\, a victory\, a toast. \n$55\, $70\, $85\, $100 & $115\n* This price includes a $4/ticket NHCC fee

SUMMARY:Festival Ballet Albuquerque: Sacred Journeys V
DESCRIPTION:7:00 pm Friday & Saturday\, 2:00 pm Sunday \nNHCC | Albuquerque Journal Theatre \nFestival Ballet Albuquerque presents Sacred Journeys V featuring Robert Mirabal. \nClassical and contemporary dance combine with the eclectic music of two-time Grammy award-winning Taos Pueblo musician Robert Mirabal in this reflection of New Mexican cultures through dance\, music\, and spoken word. Mirabal collaborates with Festival Ballet Albuquerque’s artistic director Patricia Dickinson Wells and with internationally renowned New York City Ballet dancer Jock Soto\, of Navajo and Puerto Rican descent. Soto\, who is originally from Gallup and will also make guest appearances onstage\, now lives in Eagle Nest\, NM. \nAdditional choreographers for the production are native New Mexican Dominic Guerra\, and internationally known Vladimir Conde-Reche\, a native of São Paulo\, Brazil\, and Alex Ossadnik originally from East Germany. Additional guest artists include the Trujillo Family traditional Native American dancers. \n \nRobert Mirabal\, dedicated to keeping alive the centuries-old customs of Taos Pueblo\, is also a leading proponent of world music\, and has merged his Indigenous American sound with the music of Africa\, Asia\, and the Caribbean\, tapping into a planetary pulse with a style that defies characterization. His 2002 breakthrough PBS special\, Music from a Painted Cave\, is unsurpassed in Native American theatrical expression. He performs live with his band\, Rare Tribal Mob. \nA former principal dancer with the New York Ballet\, Jock Soto was one of the last dancers to be personally selected by founder George Balanchine when he was barely 16. He danced featured roles in over 40 ballets\, of which more than 35 were created for him. The author of Every Step You Take and the subject of the documentary Water Flowing Together (the name of his Navajo clan)\, Soto teaches partnering and technique classes at the School of American Ballet\, where he has been a permanent member of the faculty since 1996. \nSacred Journeys V brings together the rich and diverse culture of our state\, while providing extraordinary role models for New Mexico’s youth. \nSACRED JOURNEYS V: The Live Performance Recording was honored to be screened in 2021 at the Red Nation International Film festival and the American Indian Film Festival. \n$16\, $25\, $35\, $45\, $55 w/ a $2 discount for seniors\, children 10 and younger and NHCC members
