DESCRIPTION:9:30 am in-person\n10:30 am Zoom \nOur Colcha Community Stich-A-Long is open to all levels of experience in an informal setting. This workshop is instructed by Annette Gutierrez-Turk. Annette has taught colcha\, a Spanish Colonial embroidery style\, to groups internationally and at the NHCC for many years. She is also an award-winning artist\, most recently recognized in 2019 at Traditional Spanish Market in Santa Fe. Annette will demonstrate as well as answer questions. DESCRIPTION:6:00 pm \nOur December 5th Happy Arte Hour will feature Artist Carol C. Sanchez and Gelli Plate/Monotype Printmaking. \nGelli Plate/Monotype is a basic printmaking process in which an image is created by rolling or painting with ink or paints directly onto a plate and printed onto paper. We will be using gelli plates\, which have many possibilities and can be used with a variety of media such as ink pads\, watercolor and acrylic paints. \nNHCC invites adults 21+ for artistic fun in a relaxed social setting. This is a great opportunity for friends to hang out\, a unique date night option\, or a place to come solo and connect with fellow art enthusiasts. We will meet on the fourth Wednesday of every month in the Center’s HLA Conference Room. \nThis month\, we will be reading Nuclear Nuevo México: Colonialism and the Effects of the Nuclear Industrial Complex on Nuevomexicanos by Myrriah Gomez. This book tells the story of the Manhattan Project\, and its displacement of Nuevomexicanas/os and Tewa people. Contrary to previous works that suppress Nuevomexicana/o presence throughout U.S. nuclear history\, Nuclear Nuevo México focuses on recovering the voices and stories that have been lost or ignored in the telling of this history.
