SUMMARY:Film: Young and Beautiful
DESCRIPTION:All events at the NHCC through April 9\, 2020 have been cancelled / postponed.\nPlease call the NHCC at 505-246-2261 for more information. \n7 pm \nPoti\, Nais\, Ione\, and Das are young Spanish women who live on their own terms. But as they approach their thirties\, a profound unease overcomes them: they are still far from being the independent\, self-confident\, and passionate adults they always dreamed of being. Each has to examine her identity through dialogue\, in an intimate exchange with Marina\, their friend and the director of this film. Young and Beautiful is a portrait of a generation accused of not wanting to grow up\, while expected to accept a hopeless world and a country in crisis\, where they are told that the one way to survive is to abandon their dreams. Presented in partnership with Instituto Cervantes as part of the Bank of America Free Thursday Film Series. \n2018; Marina Lameiro; Spanish with English subtitles; 72 minutes; not rated. \nFree ticketed event; tickets available one hour before show

The program brings together two feature films and two documentaries\, demonstrating the creative coexistence of these genres in contemporary cinematography. It is presented in collaboration with the National Hispanic Cultural Center as part of the Bank of America Free Film Series. \nIn La reconquista\, Manuela and Olmo find each other again in a future they promised each other 15 years earlier\, when they were teenagers and first fell in love. Based on this romantic premise\, La Reconquista is a film in search of time—about the consciousness of time\, about lost time and recovered time\, about what we remember and don’t remember about ourselves\, and about the words\, gestures\, and feelings to which we remain faithful because they define and challenge us in the present\, the past\, and the future. 2016; directed by Jonás Trueba; Spanish with English subtitles; 103 minutes; rated PG-13. \nFree Event \n \nContemporáneos en línea programming:\nFriday\, September 4\, 2020: La mano invisible (David Macián\, 2017)\nFriday\, September 11\, 2020: El mar nos mira de lejos (Manuel Muñoz Rivas\, 2017)\nFriday\, September 18\, 2020: Los demás días (Carlos Agulló\, 2017)\nFriday\, September 25\, 2020: La reconquista (Jonás Trueba\, 2016)\nAll titles will be available on the Instituto Cervantes Vimeo channel for 48 hours. \nLa reconquista Trailer:
