SUMMARY:Domingos en Arte: Lone Piñon and Lenore Armijo
DESCRIPTION:7:30 pm \nLone Piñon is an acoustic conjunto from Northern New Mexico whose music celebrates the diversity and integrity of their region’s cultural roots. Using violins\, accordion\, quinta huapangera\, bajo sexto\, guitarrón\, tololoche and vocals in Spanish\, English\, Nahuatl\, and P’urépecha\, the group has revived and updated the Chicano string band style that once flourished in New Mexico\, bringing a devoted musicianship to Northern New Mexican polkas and chotes\, virtuosic Mexican huapango and son calentano\, and classic borderlands conjunto. \nGrowing up in New Mexico\, Lenore Armijo was exposed to a unique blend of music including jazz\, ranchera and classical. She will lead us in a painting workshop using acrylic paints on canvas. Paintings created during this month’s HAH or Vamos will be voluntarily included in an exhibition in the education building. \n \nAbout Sean Wells: \nSean’s artwork has been featured on internationally distributed beer labels (Cerveza de los Muertos)\, nationally distributed wine labels (La Catrina Vino) and New Mexico Lottery Scratchers for which she received a national award for top scratcher design. She is an award-winning 5th generation Spanish Colonial artist and juried member of the Spanish Colonial Arts Society in the retablo category\, promoting the traditional arts through her television show\, New Mexican Santera.  Sean received “Best Visual Artist 2016” and “Top 5 Artists” 2017 and 2018 from the readers of Albuquerque the Magazine. This is a great event for all ages. Tour the ofrendas around the NHCC campus and enjoy music\, poetry\, traditional hot chocolate mexicano\, pan de muerto\, and the sharing of heartfelt memories. \nDía de Muertos is an annual traditional holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and many Hispanic communities. SUMMARY:Salud y Sabor celebrates Mexico and Día de los Muertos
DESCRIPTION:11:30 am – 2 pm \nFree Family Fun \nSalud y Sabor\, a partnership between the Agri-cultura Network\, Street Food Institute\, and the NHCC is a free event with food\, art\, and entertainment aimed at providing families with an opportunity to connect around nutrition\, cooking\, healthy lifestyles\, and culture. \nOnce a month\, community members gather for cooking demonstrations using fresh\, locally grown ingredients\, as well as fun art activities for kids and adults\, health screenings\, and live entertainment. An emphasis is placed on exploring traditional Hispanic dishes\, providing basic information/free screenings from local Western and alternative health practitioners\, and creating a vibrant atmosphere with art activities and live music.
