SUMMARY:Domingos en Arte: Nosotros
DESCRIPTION:7:30 pm \nNosotros is one of the most recognizable Latin bands in the Southwest United States. They have twice been featured on NPR’s Alt Latino\, twice been named winners in the prestigious John Lennon Songwriting Competition\, been awarded 11 NM Music Awards and have shared the stage with some of the biggest names in music. This 9-piece Latin music powerhouse seamlessly combines Latin rhythms with elements of Rock\, Salsa\, Jazz and Cumbia\, creating an original sound that is unmistakably Nosotros. But M.E. Schenck of Hyperactive Music Magazine may have interpreted their sound best by saying “Nosotros’ music is not to be explained\, it is to be felt in the pit of our souls.” \nDomingos en Arte\, a summer music and dance series presented by Melaza Music\, AMP Concerts\, and the National Hispanic Cultural Center is a family-friendly summer event on Sundays in NHCC’s charming Fountain Courtyard that features live music\, drinks\, and delicious Latin cuisine. \n$11 in Advance\, $14 Day of Show \n     Thank you to our Domingos en Arte media sponsor Telemundo 2 Kasa!!\n \n\nDomingos en Arte is part of New Mexico Culture Squared (NMC2)\, a NM Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) project to build and manage partnerships between DCA institutions and cultural organizations that will enhance the impact\, effectiveness\, attendance\, and visitor experience of exhibits and programs of DCA entities. SUMMARY:Domingos en Arte: Baracutanga
DESCRIPTION:7:30 pm \nBaracutanga is a seven-piece band representing four different countries (Bolivia\, Ecuador\, Peru\, USA) that prides itself on arranging traditional South American rhythms in new and interesting ways\, such as huayño and cumbia with Middle-Eastern darbuka or mixing Afro-Cuban bata and Afro-Peruvian festejo with Andean zampoñas\, among several other rhythmic combinations. This kind of experimentation\, coupled with blending ancestral traditions with a modern sensibility\, has resulted in an exciting and distinct Latin flavor all its own that leaves dancing crowds always wanting more.\nAdvance $11\, Day of Show $14 \nDomingos en Arte\, a summer music and dance series presented by Melaza Music\, AMP Concerts\, and the National Hispanic Cultural Center is a family-friendly summer event on Sundays in NHCC’s charming Fountain Courtyard that features live music\, drinks\, and delicious Latin cuisine. \n    Thank you to our Domingos en Arte media sponsor Telemundo 2 Kasa! \n\n• Domingos en Arte is part of New Mexico Culture Squared (NMC2)\, a NM Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) project to build and manage partnerships between DCA institutions and cultural organizations that will enhance the impact\, effectiveness\, attendance\, and visitor experience of exhibits and programs of DCA entities. A native of Dawson\, NM\, Huerta was co-founder\, with César Chávez\, of the United Farm Workers Union. In 2012\, she was recognized for her decades of ceaseless civil rights and labor organizing when Barack Obama granted her the Presidential Medal of Freedom Award\, the greatest civilian honor in the United States. This year’s César Chávez Day festivities will include the dedication of Avenida Dolores Huerta\, a portion of Albuquerque’s Bridge Boulevard that has been renamed in her honor. Avenida Dolores Huerta\, running from the city/county boundary at the Rio Grande to the east and Isleta Boulevard to the west\, will connect to Avenida César Chávez\, making it the nation’s first intersection of streets bearing the names of these two civil rights leaders who worked side-by-side for so many years.

SUMMARY:¡HAH! Happy Arte Hour 2020
DESCRIPTION:All events at the NHCC through June 26\, 2020 have been cancelled / postponed.\nPlease call the NHCC at 505-246-2261 for more information. \n6- 8 pm (new time!) \nThis year\, in the spirit of the NHCC’s 20th Anniversary\, we have invited back some of the artists that have contributed to the success of Happy Arte Hour over the years. Many of these artists were part of past exhibitions or have pieces of art in our permanent collection. \nOn the first Thursday of the month\, NHCC invites adults for artistic fun in a relaxed social setting\, which includes snacks\, refreshments\, and beer & wine for sale from Pop Fizz. This is a great opportunity for friends to hang out\, a unique date night option\, or a place to come solo and connect with fellow art enthusiasts. \nOn June 4\, Jocelyn Salas will join us again for a Mixed Media Project! \nPlease pre-register HERE (so we know how many materials to prepare). Registration for the following month is available the day after the current program month. \nFor more information please call or email Elena Baca at 505-246-2261 or ElenaD.Baca@state.nm.us \nFree\, $5+ donations are encouraged to support the artists & purchase supplies
