Through the Dark tells the remarkable true story of Nava’s fight with a mysterious illness that nearly claimed her life – eventually diagnosed as a rare autoimmune disease. Inspiring\, uplifting\, and transcendent in purpose\, Through The Dark reads like a gripping thriller as Nava conducts an investigation into her own life.  \n\n\nOn October 4\, the Center will host a workshop with Yolanda Nava at 10:00 am. We will meet on the fourth Wednesday of every month in the Center’s HLA Conference Room. \nStreet of Too Many Stories by Denise Chávez is a novel of magical realism about four families on Encantada Street in a New Mexican town\, exploring themes of love\, pain\, dysfunction\, hope\, mercy\, and the healing of families. The story uses the street and its spirited inhabitants\, including dancing spirits\, to reveal the complex\, layered realities of humanity and the liminal space between challenge and hope. \nFree community event. Enjoy a free performance from one of the most recognizable and original Latin bands in the Southwest United States.\nAward-winning ensemble Nosotros began as a guitar trio in Las Cruces in 1994. Now an eight-member band\, they relocated to the Albuquerque/Santa Fe area in 2001 and have established themselves as one of the most popular bands in New Mexico. Combining Latin rhythms with elements of rock\, salsa\, jazz\, and cumbia to create their original sound\, they have released seven albums\, including the anthology CD titled XX to celebrate their 20 years together as a band in 2014. They have received numerous New Mexico Music (“MIC”) Awards\, including Album of the Year and Producer of the Year for their third\, self-titled album\, Nosotros\, and have appeared with artists including Ozomatli\, Los Lobos\, Etta James\, The Wailers\, and the Gipsy Kings.
