DESCRIPTION:12 pm (available for 48 hours) \nInstituto Cervantes Vimeo Channel HERE \nJaime Chávarrri’s Las cosas del querer follows the trajectory of a song-and-dance duo and their piano player in the 1940s\, with a look into their backstage lives and an evocation of the popular music of their times. As the group’s rise to fame and fortune parallels Franco’s consolidation of power in collusion with the Spanish aristocracy\, their return to Madrid marks the most difficult  moments of their careers. Lavishly produced and vibrantly entertaining as a musical\, Las cosas del querer also addresses issues of fascism\, feminism\, and homophobia in postwar Spain. \nFree event \n \n1989; Spanish with English subtitles; 89 minutes; rated G. \nÁngela Molina’s distinguished career began in the midst of Spain’s transition to democracy\, and continues to this day. She has also appeared in numerous international films\, beginning with her appearance in Luis Buñuel’s last film\, That Obscure Object of Desire. In recognition of her brilliant career\, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awarded her the 2021 Goya Prize of Honor. Instituto Cervantes is pleased to present “Ciclo Ángela Molina” in homage to this extraordinary artist\, beloved for her authenticity\, her undeniable talent and her special sensibility\, and in gratitude for her outstanding contributions to Spanish cinema.
