Semana Cervantina / Cervantes Week

During Cervantes Week, we will commemorate one of the most universally acclaimed figures of Spanish language and culture, Miguel de Cervantes. This event is organized by Instituto Cervantes-Albuquerque in collaboration with the National Hispanic Cultural Center, the Spanish Resource Center, and the Mexican Consulate in Albuquerque. Spanish Cooking Classes: Paella!

6 pm There are national dishes that are universally appreciated, and paella, from the Spanish gastronomic tradition, is undeniably one of them. Instituto Cervantes Albuquerque, in partnership with the National Hispanic Cultural Center and Pop Fizz, presents a new Spanish cooking class in the series of monthly classes that we have been presenting since 2013. In these classes, students participate in the creative process along with the chef. Peruvian Cooking Class: Ceviche!

6 pm If you are wondering how to prepare Peruvian food, come join us and learn from our Peruvian chef as Instituto Cervantes Albuquerque, in partnership with the National Hispanic Cultural Center and Pop Fizz, hosts a Peruvian cooking class. Second Cervantes Drawing and Painting Contest for New Mexico Students

All drawings and paintings must be sent by 5 pm on November 27 Instituto Cervantes, the National Hispanic Cultural Center, and the Spanish Resource Center are organizing a student drawing and painting contest to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the creation of Pablo Picasso’s Guernica and to celebrate the exhibition El Prado in Santa Fe—the U.S. debut of 92 full-scale reproductions of some of the greatest masterpieces from Madrid’s Museo del Prado. 2 pm Instituto Cervantes, the National Hispanic Cultural Center, and the Spanish Resource Center present the awards for a student drawing and painting contest to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the creation of Pablo Picasso’s Guernica and to celebrate the exhibition El Prado in Santa Fe—the U.S. debut of 92 full-scale reproductions of some of the greatest masterpieces from Madrid’s Museo del Prado. 7 pm Organized by Instituto Cervantes Albuquerque in collaboration with the National Hispanic Cultural Center and the Spanish Resource Center to commemorate the “International Day of the Book” and the “Day of the Spanish Language." “Spain and the Independence of the United States” is a Lecture and discussion group. Historian Dr. Tom Chavez will discuss the making of early U.S. history from Spanish resources, the language of Cervantes. 7 pm Place:  Wells Fargo Auditorium Fernando Barros (cantaor) presents “The Metamorphics” with Tito Rios, Brian Nelson & Juan Aniceto. This concert extrapolates on Leonard Cohen's musical compositions, along with classics, to receive the texts or poems written by Spanish authors of the past, such as Miguel de Cervantes and Federico Garcia Lorca. 9 am – Poesía eres tú 1:30 am – Cuentistas 2019 It is a literary contest for New Mexico Middle and High schools students, who write about their own choice topics. There are 2 categories of participants: native Spanish speakers and non-Spanish speakers in grades 6th to 12th around the State. Free and open to the public; donations welcome
