SUMMARY:Festival Flamenco Internacional: Compañía Manuel Liñán\, Nómada
DESCRIPTION:8 pm \nFestival Flamenco Internacional de Alburquerque presents Compañía Manuel Liñán in Nómada. Featuring three bailaoras\, three bailaores\, three singers\, and two guitarists\, the work is a “collective journey” framing the art of flamenco in different geographic regions and different textures. It develops Liñan’s work as a choreographer\, director\, and dancer—exploring the different worlds that sustain him on his diverse paths. \nHumans remain innately nomadic\, now searching for the places and forms that meet emotional needs as well as providing basic sustenance. As these artists investigate new physical and emotional realms\, their performance is “a dance to movement\, a song to the immense tapestry in which we live\, with its infinite possibilities\, and with a particular ode to the creative migration responsible for personal and artistic survival.”\n$30\, $40\, $60\, $75

SUMMARY:La Pasión de Mariachi: Salute to Mariachi History and Excellence
DESCRIPTION:5:30 pm \nLa Pasión de Mariachi is a celebration of the art form of mariachi. The purpose is to create greater awareness\, understanding and appreciation of traditional and authentic mariachi music by providing insights into the music\, band member make-up\, and instruments. Mariachi groups\, like orchestras\, are typically comprised of 18 to 20 members; many of the instruments\, such as the guitarrón\, are unique to this form of music. Performances will demonstrate various styles within the genre\, including son\, huapango\, and ranchera. \nThere will also be a demonstration of the beautiful teaching exchange between “master instructor” and student in violin\, guitar\, and voice. This exercise demonstrates the great gift of the workshop offered through Mariachi Spectacular de Albuquerque\, because it is very rare in any musical genre that iconic master musicians interact with and teach youthful students. It would be the equivalent\, in rock and roll\, of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards teaching voice and guitar to an everyday music student.\nFree Community Event

DESCRIPTION:7:30 pm \nLinford Detweiler and Karin Bergquist\, named to Paste magazine’s list of 100 Best Living Songwriters\, began performing together in 1990 in local Cincinnati clubs and gathering places. SUMMARY:KumbaCarey: Afro-Dominican Traditions Across Borders\, Congos & Salves
DESCRIPTION:6:30 pm to 8:30 pm \nTake a journey through the exhilarating soundscape of Afro-Dominican music\, which extends way beyond the renowned merengue and bachata. Come enjoy and dance to the sounds of congos and salves\, two of the numerous Afro-Dominican musical and dance traditions that are a cultural treasure not well-known outside of the Dominican Republic. The evening begins with a lecture-demonstration of congos and salves music and dance by KumbaCarey’s director Pedro Raposo and co-director Maria Terrero\, featuring local Albuquerque percussionists and singers. It ends with a jam session across borders celebrating Afro-Diasporic and other traditions from around the world. Bring your instruments and your dancing feet! \nConceived\, created and founded in New York City in 2007 by pioneers Pedro Raposo and María Terrero\, KumbaCarey is a most dynamic band of contemporary and traditional music from the Dominican Republic. Offspring of the late master percussionist Boni Raposo’s Afro-Dominican music ensemble La 21 Division\, KumbaCarey is a celebration of the diversity of African-derived rhythms from the Dominican Republic. \nInternationally syndicated radio series Afropop Worldwide has dubbed Afro-Dominican music “a secret treasure\, filled with virtuosic drumming styles\, heart-stopping grooves\, and mystic dance parties.”\n$5 suggested donation
