Opera Southwest Presents Astor Piazzolla’s María de Buenos Aires

February 17, 20, 22 & 24, 2019 2 pm -- Sundays 7:30 pm—Wednesday & Friday Opera Southwest presents Astor Piazzolla’s María de Buenos Aires, a fully-staged opera with orchestra, sung in Spanish with both English and Spanish translation supertitles, and presented in two acts with one intermission. OSW is thrilled to present Piazzolla’s only opera in partnership with the National Hispanic Cultural Center. Carnaval 2019: with PANdemonium and Odara Dance Ensemble

7:30 pm The NHCC’s annual celebration of Carnaval is a dazzling spectacle of vibrant dance, engaging music, and beautiful costumes, featuring the band PANdemonium and the Odara Dance Ensemble and showcasing the Carnaval celebrations of Cuba, Trinidad, Brazil and New Orleans. Carnaval, the festive season occurring before Lent in many countries, including Latin American and Caribbean nations as well as parts of the United States, is one of the world’s most widespread celebrations and one of its biggest parties. ABQ Philharmonic Presents “Art and Music Combined!” (Rental)

3 pm - 4:30 pm Music director Byron Herrington conducts the ABQ Philharmonic in “Art and Music Combined!” Students create artwork based on listening to the music, which is then projected above the orchestra as well as displayed in the lobby. National Institute of Flamenco and the NHCC Present Yjastros 34

  The NHCC’s Roy E. Disney Center for Performing Arts is closed due to a facilities issues. As a result, this weekend’s performances of the National Institute of Flamenco’s performances of “Yjastros 34” at the National Hispanic Cultural Center, on March 15 and 16, are canceled. For questions about tickets, please contact the NHCC Box Office at 505-383-4771. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience. Revolutions International Theatre Festival: Migrant Songs

26th Annual César Chávez Day March & Fiesta

March—10:30 am Fiesta—12 noon-3:30 pm Civil rights and labor leader César Chávez was born on March 31, 1927 in Yuma, AZ. Every year since his untimely death in 1993, the Recuerda a César Chávez Committee has commemorated the birth of this humble civil rights leader by marching in his honor and celebrating his life with music, dancing, poetry and enjoyable, culturally enriched activities for children.
