Chispa: A Mariachi Valentine’s, Featuring Reynaldo Maestas

2 pm Mariachi singer Reynaldo Maestas, Baila! Baila!, and Mariachi Tapatio perform romantic music and dance for Valentine’s Day, delighting audiences with amazing colors, tantalizing rhythms, quick footwork, and powerful vibratos. The concert will include a set of “Canciones de Amor” in both English and Spanish; duets will feature the beautiful vocals of members of Mariachi Tapatio and Reynaldo Maestas. $22

Chispa: New Latin Music Series, Palenke Soultribe

8 pm Palenke Soultribe (PST), a live electronic production collective based in Los Angeles, deconstructs Afro-Colombian rhythms and blends them with modern beats, catchy bass lines, and synthesized arpeggios. Always pushing the envelope visually and conceptually, the group represents a new generation of Colombian musicians ready to break all the rules. Watch them in action HERE. 10 am The NHCC’s annual celebration of Carnaval is a dazzling spectacle of vibrant dance, engaging music, and beautiful costumes, featuring the band PANdemonium and the Odara Dance Ensemble and showcasing the Carnaval celebrations of Cuba, Trinidad, Brazil and New Orleans. Aliento: Jesús Muñoz Flamenco, Red Note

8 pm Casa Flamenca and the NHCC present Jesús Muñoz Flamenco in Red Note—borrowed from the tastefully symbolic "Blue Note Jazz Club" and exploring dynamic, visionary movements in dance, music, and visual art inspired by cante flamenco. Like jazz, flamenco has its roots in raw, intimate improvisation upon standard structures; it improvises through interpretations of the structures of cante jondo, or deep song.
