Reuniting the “primos hermanos” first cousins of flamenco and son jarocho\, this captivating performance explores 21st century mestizaje\, and Indo-Hispano\, Chicano\, and Latino identities and shared histories through flamenco and jarocho. The controversial themes of rebellion\, immorality\, and the tragic death of the main character shocked French audiences when it was initially performed. The opera’s popularity and the main character’s notoriety left lasting impressions on audiences for decades. \nThe tale revolves around a passionate love triangle between Carmen\, a seductive cigarette girl\, Don Jose\, a solider\, and Escamillo\, a handsome bullfighter. Despite Don Jose’s efforts to resist her charms\, he succumbs to Carmen’s enchantment\, resulting in his downfall and Carmen’s demise. \n$22\, $42\, $63\, $85\, $105 with discounts for groups of 8 or more\, anyone 30 years old and younger and Opera for All with a WIC or EBT card. \n \nThe presentation of Carmen will be in Spanish. The translation\, by Eduardo de Bray\, dates back to 1904 and comes from a Barcelona zarzuela company. \nRunning time: 2 hours 30 minutes\, including one intermission.

A Latinx Pride Celebration will feature Latinx artists and put a spotlight on the people who have always been a part of the LGBTQ+ community by exploring traditional Latinx music and dance with LGBTQ+ twists. For example: this performance may feature a Flamenco dance that is traditionally performed between a man and a woman\, featuring two men instead. This production will also celebrate some of the LGBTQ+ Latinx community legends\, who have acted as artistic inspirations. \nNew Mexico Gay Men’s Chorus strives to be an empowering voice for the LGBTQ+ community and to enrich our greater New Mexican community through choral excellence. DESCRIPTION:7:00 pm Friday & Saturday\, 2:00 pm Sunday \nNHCC | Albuquerque Journal Theatre \nFestival Ballet Albuquerque presents Sacred Journeys V featuring Robert Mirabal. \nClassical and contemporary dance combine with the eclectic music of two-time Grammy award-winning Taos Pueblo musician Robert Mirabal in this reflection of New Mexican cultures through dance\, music\, and spoken word. Mirabal collaborates with Festival Ballet Albuquerque’s artistic director Patricia Dickinson Wells and with internationally renowned New York City Ballet dancer Jock Soto\, of Navajo and Puerto Rican descent. Soto\, who is originally from Gallup and will also make guest appearances onstage\, now lives in Eagle Nest\, NM. \nAdditional choreographers for the production are native New Mexican Dominic Guerra\, and internationally known Vladimir Conde-Reche\, a native of São Paulo\, Brazil\, and Alex Ossadnik originally from East Germany. Additional guest artists include the Trujillo Family traditional Native American dancers. \n \nRobert Mirabal\, dedicated to keeping alive the centuries-old customs of Taos Pueblo\, is also a leading proponent of world music\, and has merged his Indigenous American sound with the music of Africa\, Asia\, and the Caribbean\, tapping into a planetary pulse with a style that defies characterization. His 2002 breakthrough PBS special\, Music from a Painted Cave\, is unsurpassed in Native American theatrical expression. He performs live with his band\, Rare Tribal Mob. \nA former principal dancer with the New York Ballet\, Jock Soto was one of the last dancers to be personally selected by founder George Balanchine when he was barely 16. He danced featured roles in over 40 ballets\, of which more than 35 were created for him. Diwali is one of India’s biggest Hindu festivals\, celebrated with great enthusiasm and happiness. The festival lasts five continuous days\, and the third day is celebrated as the main Diwali festival or ‘Festival of Lights.’ Different colorful varieties of fireworks are always associated with this festival. On this auspicious day\, people light up diyas and candles all around their house. They perform Laxmi Puja in the evening and seek the divine blessings of Goddess of Wealth. The festival of Diwali is never complete without the exchange of gifts.
