Opera in the Museum
September-2019-Board-Meeting-Minutes6 pm Enjoy a sampling of music from the sold-out opera based on Rudolfo Anaya’s beloved novel Bless Me, Ultima, surrounded by the artwork from the exhibit La Ultima Exhibición. This brand new opera, performed at the NHCC in February of this year, was commissioned by Opera Southwest, the NHCC, and San José-based Opera Cultura. The composer, Hector Armienta, worked with Mr. Anaya on the libretto. $20 (limited to 50)

4th Annual South American Folk Festival

In addition to food vendors from participating countries, the festival will feature traditional dancers from Colombia, Peru, Venezuela, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, and Ecuador. Film: Is It Really So Strange?
NHCC-Newsletter-November-2-307 pm Burgeoning since Morrissey moved to LA, the Latino fan scene is the subject of Is It Really So Strange?, a documentary film by William E. Jones, who immersed himself in fan nights, concerts, and hair grease to record what he found to be a complex world. Embracing teens and twentysomethings from Mexican, Central American, and South American backgrounds, the Latino fan culture is a world away from Morrissey's UK following, though every bit as fanatical. Domingos en Arte: Son Como Son
Patio | Fountain Courtyard 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM, United States7:30 pm Son Como Son bills itself as "Salsa, Cuban Style." Founded in 1993, it is unquestionably one of Albuquerque's longest-standing and most popular salsa ensembles. They play regularly to packed audiences comprising highly animated and dedicated salseros at the NM Jazz Workshop's Salsa Under the Stars series; at the Cooperage; and at special concerts, such as those at the Telluride Jazz Festival. They are directed by renowned trombonist, vocalist, percussionist, composer, and arranger César Bauvallet, who moved from Havana, Cuba to Albuquerque in 1992. Domingos en (more...)
