Her acclaimed concert is a compilation of folkloric Ladino songs from around the world sharing memories of the Sephardic community still alive in the traditions of Spain today. There\, he encounters sinister old men\, strange disappearances\, spirits\, a peculiar priest\, and even the archbishop of Santiago de Compostela in this tale full of fantasy\, terror\, and humor. The stop-motion 3D animation film was partially produced through crowdfunding\, with a total of 560 producers. Presented in partnership with Instituto Cervantes as part of the Bank of America Free Thursday Film Series.\n2012; Fernando Cortizo; Spanish with English subtitles; 84 minutes; not rated. \nThe Camino de Santiago (“Way of St. James”) is a large network of ancient pilgrimage routes that stretch across Europe and come together at the tomb of the apostle St. James (Santiago) in Santiago de Compostela in northwest Spain. Since the beginning of the 9th century\, when the tomb was discovered\, Santiago de Compostela has been a pan-European place of peregrination. The city’s Old Town was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985\, and the European Union declared the Camino de Santiago to be the first European Cultural Itinerary in 1987. According to Catholic tradition\, completing a pilgrimage on the Camino\, some 500 miles along the major routes\, assures forgiveness of one’s sins. DESCRIPTION:7:30 pm \nThe NHCC’s annual celebration of Carnaval is a dazzling spectacle of vibrant dance\, engaging music\, and beautiful costumes\, featuring the band PANdemonium and the Odara Dance Ensemble and showcasing the Carnaval celebrations of Cuba\, Trinidad\, Brazil and New Orleans. \nCarnaval\, the festive season occurring before Lent in many countries\, including Latin American and Caribbean nations as well as parts of the United States\, is one of the world’s most widespread celebrations and one of its biggest parties. Among the guidelines that the Performing Arts program has developed\, refined\, and utilized since 1999 to design its programming and curate its seasons is the provision of a variety of annual programming that is specific to seasons\, holidays\, and celebrations\, as well as culture-specific. Carnaval was first celebrated at the NHCC in 2002\, and has been part of the Center’s regular seasonal programming since 2006\, with regular performances by presenting partners Frank Leto & PANdemonium and Pilar Leto & the Odara Dance Ensemble. This year’s Carnaval 2019 marks the 14th annual Carnaval Celebration at the NHCC’s Roy E. Disney Center for Performing Arts.\n$17\, $22\, $27 w/ $2 off for students\, seniors and NHCC members. DESCRIPTION:7 pm \nThis historical documentary\, shedding light on the current debate over immigration reform and the use of “guest workers” in American agriculture\, examines what was known as the Bracero Program—a system put in place from 1942 to 1964 to recruit Mexican farm laborers for temporary work in the United States. The film features testimony from surviving braceros as well as these workers’ family members and descendants\, along with commentary from featured experts and extensive archival material.
