Siembra, Latino Theatre Season: Hembras de Pluma Present Rise: An Offering

March 9-12 & 16-19, 2017 7:30 pm—Thursday-Saturday 2 pm—Sunday Hembras de Pluma—“feathered women,” or “women wielding the pen”—is a collective of women artists who have come together to present personal stories of childhood, growing older, loss, love, grief and joy, told as monologues and short plays, and written and performed to honor their histories, their ancestors, their families, and themselves. THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT! 8 pm Pussy Riot is a Russian all-female protest art collective based in Moscow. Founded in March 2011, it had a variable membership of approximately 11 women. They gained global notoriety when five members of the group staged a performance inside Moscow's Cathedral of Christ the Savior in 2012, which led to the extended imprisonment of three of the members. Chavez, a dance icon in Albuquerque during the 1980s and early ‘90s who is known for such masterpiece ballets as Sleepy Hollow, Carmina Burana, and The Jungle Book, has created his most epic ballet in over 20 years. 7 pm A documentary exploring the mechanisms that maintain patriarchal systems and perpetuate economic, cultural, and social inequality and imbalances of power in the 21st century, in the West in general and Spanish society in particular. Patriarchal ideology is revealed in images projected through our modes of communication; feminist thinkers interviewed include Ana de Miguel, Ochy Curiel, Pablo Llamas, Pilar Aguilar, Remedios Zafra, Rosa Cobo, Soledad Murillo, and Yayo Herrero.
