Based on the life and work of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo\, it is a fully staged opera with orchestra\, sung in Spanish with both Spanish and English translation supertitles\, and presented in two acts with one intermission. The music of composer Robert Xavier Rodriguez bridges the gap between opera and music theatre\, drawing inspiration from Gershwin\, Sondheim\, and Kurt Weill; the libretto is by Hilary Blecher and Migdalia Cruz. \n$21\, $41\, $62\, $83\, $103 with discounts for groups of 8 or more\, anyone 30 years old or younger\, and Opera for All with a WIC or EBT card. \n \nFrida Kahlo painted 55 self-portraits\, each one offering us a revealing look at the artist at a single point in her life. The Blind Boys are known for crossing multiple musical boundaries with their remarkable interpretations of everything from traditional gospel favorites to contemporary spiritual material by songwriters such as Eric Clapton\, Prince\, and Tom Waits. His comedic brilliance makes people laugh at life’s hypocrisies and the insanity he sees in the world. \nA GRAMMY Award-winning stand-up comedian\, Black performs his critically acclaimed shows more than 200 nights annually\, to capacity audiences throughout Europe\, New Zealand\, Canada\, and the United States. He is one of a few performers to sell out renowned theaters including Carnegie Hall\, Lincoln Center\, Brooks Atkinson Theatre\, New York City Center\, and the main stage at the Mirage in Las Vegas\, with a sold-out Broadway run at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York City.
