Muldez notes\, “The materials and objects that I make are always a visual reference to the larger ideas of existence as a continuum and the current expansion of our known universe.” \nArtist Statement: \n“The objects I collect end up in piles in my studio and await re-examination. It is not uncommon for me to observe and admire an object for years before I am aware of its full aesthetic potential. The sculptures that come out of this process resonate with evolving understanding of our world and the study of other worlds\, galaxies\, and nebulas.”

With a little sculpting putty and paint\, he builds large scale creations that seem to take on a magical life of their own. Each sculpture taunts the imagination with agile forms that appear to be something different from every angle. Abdalla describes his process as one of feeling rather than thinking and notes the importance of listening to his work. \nNick’s Artist Statement: \n“’All who wander are not lost.’ ‘I’m not lost\, I’m just exploring.’ ‘Wherever you go\, there you are.’ As simplistic as these slogans seem\, they speak to my present approach to making things. The process has become important\, or perhaps\, the most important factor in my work. It is what I discover\, what I find\, what I feel that makes me do this. His exploration of the Mesoamerican legend of La Llorona\, the “Wailing Woman\,” gives both historic and human depth to the well-known myth. DESCRIPTION:10:30 am to 12:30 pm \nThe National Hispanic Cultural Center is pleased to offer children’s programming on the first Saturday morning of every month. This is a fun and engaging docent and artist-led family program.  Families (limited to 25 participants) get a 30-minute museum tour focused on an art form\, source inspiration\, artist or type of material.  Following the tour\, the whole family can create their own artwork in the Pete V. DESCRIPTION:10 am \nCONTRA-TIEMPO\, a multilingual Los Angeles-based dance company founded in 2005\, is dedicated to transforming the world through dance.  The company creates physically intense and politically astute performance work that moves audiences to imagine what is possible. Its unique Urban Latin Dance Theater brings to life voices not traditionally heard on the concert stage\, while building community and facilitating dialogue. \nCONTRA-TIEMPO’s work is rooted in salsa and Afro-Cuban and draws from hip-hop\, urban and contemporary dance-theatre\, pushing the boundaries of Latin dance as an expressive cultural form.  The company’s artists are a rich tapestry of professional dancers and performers from varied styles. \nTheir new work Agua Furiosa was developed through a series of site-specific performances connected to distinct bodies of water\, and explores issues of race\, exile\, injustice\, water\, drought\, and upheaval.\nThis is a free event with registration.
