DESCRIPTION:5:30 pm \nPresented by Nusenda Credit Union\, the National Hispanic Cultural Center’s  Circo Radical Ensemble is delighted to invite you to their original performance\, “Las Memorias de las Lobas.”  This new\, multi-generational circus performance is built by 10 advanced circus students along with 10 professional circus artists who work together intensively over 10 days to conceptualize\, train\, research\, design\, and develop new work using stilts\, live music\, juggling\, aerials\, clown and mask. \n“Las Memorias” is inspired by the legend of La Loba from the Pueblo people.  La Loba is known for gathering and preserving that which is in danger of being lost to the world. The site-specific performance takes place outside on the NHCC campus. \nThis is free event with a suggested donation of $5

DESCRIPTION:10 am \nWe’d like to let you in on a little secret. \nEach year\, ¡Globalquerque! kicks off with a free concert for our local school kids. This mini-fest features two of our regular performers doing short sets as a way to introduce the kids to some cool different cultures. \nThis year the participating bands are Trad.Attack! (Estonia) and Betsayda Machado y La Parranda El Clavo (Venezuela). \nThis year we are opening the program up to the general public. Come share some great music and the joy and enthusiasm of seeing the kids engage with the bands. SUMMARY:Second Cervantes Drawing and Painting Contest for New Mexico Students
DESCRIPTION:All drawings and paintings must be sent by 5 pm on November 27 \nInstituto Cervantes\, the National Hispanic Cultural Center\, and the Spanish Resource Center are organizing a student drawing and painting contest to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the creation of Pablo Picasso’s Guernica and to celebrate the exhibition El Prado in Santa Fe—the U.S. debut of 92 full-scale reproductions of some of the greatest masterpieces from Madrid’s Museo del Prado. \nAll school districts in New Mexico are encouraged to participate. Students in three age categories\, ages 6-8\, 9-11\, and 12-15 are invited to submit original drawings depicting any subject matter relating to great Spanish or Latin American painters—Pablo Picasso\, Salvador Dali\, Joan Miró\, Diego Rivera\, Frida Kahlo\, etc. Teachers are encouraged to introduce any of these artists in their classrooms. The drawings and paintings will be on display at the NHCC from December 9\, 2017 through April 7\, 2018.\nFree public event \n \nSubmissions must be original artworks 17” x 11”\, either horizontal or vertical. Each submission must have the following information on the back:\n• Contestant’s first and last name;\n• Contestant’s age;\n• Name of school;\n• Contact telephone number and e-mail. \nAll drawings and paintings must be sent by 5 pm on November 27 to:\nInstituto Cervantes (Drawing Contest)\n1701 Fourth Street SW\nAlbuquerque\, NM 87102\nArtwork will not be returned. \nA special grand prize of $500 will be awarded\, with $300 going to the student and $200 to the school. Domenici Education Building Creative Classroom. \nThis month’s art project will be lead by Martha Vároz Ewing who uses wheat\, oats & barley straw in her work\, which she gathers from her brother’s wheat fields in Southern Colorado.  The straw is known as Poor Man’s Gold and the tin is “Poor Man’s Silver.  She combines the two mediums as she feels they complement each other.  Martha notes that her art takes on a form of prayer which is offered to the Trinity and is symbolic in her designs as noted in patterns of three.  She was mentored by the late Paula Rodriguez who was responsible\, along with her husband Eliseo\,  for the revival of this dying art form in the 1930’s during the WPA project. \nMartha is a native of Santa Fé and has been a participant in the traditional Spanish Market since 2004.
