Herrera Internship Endowment

The Herrera Internship Endowment was created by Dr. Denise Herrera to honor her parents (Yolanda and Fred Herrera) and grandparents (Reyna and Mariano Herrera), who did not have the opportunity to pursue higher education. As a native New Mexican, Dr. Herrera has dedicated much of her academic and professional career to the advancement of underrepresented groups in higher education. As a participant in several diversity programs herself, Dr. Herrera has mentored students from elementary through postdoctoral levels. Día de los Muertos: Lesson Plans

Día de los Muertos is observed on November 1st and 2nd in many countries across Latin American. The celebration is the result of a blending of Catholic Spanish traditions with Indigenous customs and beliefs. It is believed that on Día de los Muertos the veil between the spirit world and real world is lifted long enough for the souls of the deceased to reunite with their families and friends. VOCES Summer Writing Institute for Teens

9:30 am - 4 pm (MST) Weekdays, Monday - Friday Registration link coming soon. Limited to 15 teens (Apply early to get in! First come, first served) Voces is a FREE, month-long writing institute for high school writers. Teens (rising 9th graders through graduating seniors) are inspired to write prose, poetry and monologues through a wide range of experiential activities. The program culminates with chapbooks and a public reading/performance. The Musical Adventures of Oliver Twist

2 pm (MST) New Mexico Young Actors presents The Musical Adventures of Oliver Twist. Based on the novel by Charles Dickens, this musical follows the orphan Oliver from his escapades during a life of thievery with Fagin’s criminal gang to the loving home of Mr. Brownlow.  The tuneful score is by Scott DeTurk, who is the composer of the music from our popular 2016 production of Pocahontas. $14; $2 discount for children 12 and younger School matinees on Thursday and Friday, November 18 and 19, at 10 am (more...)

Visual Arts Museum: First Sunday Free Admission

10 am to 4 pm The first Sunday of every month the NHCC Art Museum is free to all New Mexico residents. Visit exhibitions such as: Aquí Estamos: New Selections from the Permanent Collection, Tempo y Tiempo: 4 Photographers in NM, and Mira Mira on the Wall: Reflecting on 20 Years of NHCC Exhibitions. Reserve tickets for the free first Sunday of the month early by clicking on the link below. All visitors and employees will be required to wear masks or cloth face coverings at all times.
