10:30 am to 12 pm A great morning of art-making for children of all ages and families of all sizes. A visit to the museum is included in this artist-led workshop. We will meet in the Creative Classroom in the Pete V. Domenici Building. This month, join Jocelyn Salas and Elena in a slight museum takeover. We were anticipating construction and a section of the museum does not have artwork. We will search for clues and use our imaginations to recreate the missing artwork. Art Making: Try this at home!

In April 2019, we made lemonade out of lemons in the Art Museum. Not real lemonade, because food and drink aren’t allowed in the Museum! We were expecting construction, and to keep the art safe, it had to be put in storage. We took the families participating in our Saturday program, Vamos al Museo into the Museum to look at blank walls. 10:30 am to noon On the first Saturday of the month, the National Hispanic Cultural Center invites families to ¡Vamos al Museo!, an artist lead hands-on art experience. Our morning begins with inspiration in the art museum, looking at design, materials and construction. Back in the education building we will create our own art piece to take home. Summer Institutes Performances: Voces and Manoa in Braceros: How We Remember

2 pm  Two of the NHCC Summer Institutes for Youth—Voces and the Manoa Project—present a very special performance with the Arizona-based Safos Dance Theater: “Braceros: How We Remember,” a performance of dance/movement with after-performance discussion. Join our teens for an exploration of the reality and legacy of The Braceros Program, based on the NHCC exhibit, “The Braceros Program: 1942-1964 – Photographed by the Hermanos Mayo.”  Located in the NHCC Memorial Park between the Pete V. Thursday at 5 pm Friday at 10 am The NHCC’s Summer Institutes—Circo Latino, the Manoa Project, and Voces— come see young artists, ages 8-13, present an original show featuring trapeze, juggling, stilting, acrobatics, clowning, live music, and more. Free event with a suggested donation of $5 Deep gratitude to our sponsors who make the program possible: The McCune Foundation, Nusenda, City of Albuquerque Urban Enhancement Fund, Department of Cultural Affairs, Vintage Albuquerque, and the U.S. Forest Service.
