Virtual 2020 Bosque Chile Festival

2 pm both days Bernalillo County and the National Hispanic Cultural Center present the Virtual 2020 Bosque Chile Festival, a celebration of food, art, and culture on the Rio Grande. The public is invited to join in the celebration of the chile harvest on Saturday, August 15th and Sunday, August 16th, 2020. Our César Chávez Day Fiesta has always been a celebration of the life and legacy of César Chávez, featuring a march—La Marcha de Justicia– followed by a family fiesta here at the Center. Carnaval Celebration 2021 Auditions

3 pm Live via Zoom, register for an audition by emailing odaradance@gmail.com The NHCC’s annual celebration of Carnaval has been postponed because of the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions, but we are not giving up on the celebration. While we work out the details, the Odara Dance Ensemble will be holding online auditions on Saturday, October 17th. Please register for an audition by emailing odaradance@gmail.com by October 15th. Día de los Muertos: Lesson Plans

Día de los Muertos is observed on November 1st and 2nd in many countries across Latin American. The celebration is the result of a blending of Catholic Spanish traditions with Indigenous customs and beliefs. It is believed that on Día de los Muertos the veil between the spirit world and real world is lifted long enough for the souls of the deceased to reunite with their families and friends. Roadrunner Food Bank Distribution Location

11 am The NHCC will be a special drive-thru distribution location for the Roadrunner Food Bank on Wednesday, December 23rd starting 11am. The Roadrunner Food Bank of New Mexico supplies food to hundreds of organizations throughout New Mexico and it is an honor to be a distribution partner during this difficult holiday season. César Chávez Day Celebration

Times TBD Recuerda César Chávez Committee Facebook page HERE Since 2007, the National Hispanic Cultural Center has collaborated with Albuquerque’s Recuerda a César Chávez Committee (RCCC) to celebrate the life and legacy of the renowned American civil rights leader César Estrada Chávez, co-founder, with Dolores Huerta, of the National Farmworkers Association and subsequently president of the United Farmworkers of America. In previous years, the annual Marcha de Justicia  has departed from the NHCC to begin the day’s activities, returning to the Center for an afternoon community Fiesta. (more...)

NHCC Children’s Bilingual Book Festival

9 am-5 pm (MST) Live online. Visit the festival website This annual festival is the only one of its kind in the U.S. that features children’s books in Spanish and English and Indigenous languages and English. The focus on Spanish, English, Indigenous languages books and authors makes this festival particularly meaningful and vibrant, reflecting the identities of many children in New Mexico, the American Southwest, and beyond.
