  • Carnaval 2016: “Ticket to Paradise”

    Roy E. Disney Center for Performing Arts: Albuquerque Journal Theatre 1701 4th St SW, Albuquerque, NM

    7:30 pm Frank and Pilar Leto and the NHCC continue their annual celebration of Carnaval with a festive and colorful evening of music, dance, and theatre featuring the Odara Dance Ensemble and the musical group PANdemonium. Carnaval 2016: “Ticket to Paradise” transports the audience to exotic Carnaval destinations. You are invited to join the party at our first stop in Rio de Janeiro, then on to Trinidad, Cuba, and our final destination, New Orleans.   • 23rd Annual César Chávez Day

    10:30 am - Marcha 12 pm – Fiesta Join the 23rd annual César Chávez Day celebration, with a march beginning at 10:30 am and ending at noon at the National Hispanic Cultural Center’s Plaza Mayor.  Following the march, the family fiesta at the Center includes poetry, dancing, community awards and exhibits, children’s activities, food, a keynote speech by Carlos Marentes, and live music by Las Cafeteras.   • Aki Matsuri (Japanese Fall Festival) 2017 (Rental)

    10 am to 5 pm Celebrate the NMJACL’s annual fall festival Aki Matsuri on Sunday, September 17th featuring Japanese cultural exhibits, vendor fair, musical demonstrations, Japanese art, Japanese food, Beer and Sake tastings and more! The New Mexico Japanese-American Citizens League (NMJACL) has been hosting Aki Matsuri (trans.: fall festival) for over twenty years.   • Día de los Muertos: Despedida

    5 pm to 7 pm Día de Muertos is an annual traditional holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and many Hispanic communities. Join the NHCC and experienced, knowledgeable local artists to learn about the meaning of this celebration, the traditional arts and crafts associated with the celebration and development of ofrendas that honor families and individuals. The National Hispanic Cultural Center will hold its annual Despedida to celebrate Día de los Muertos with music, poetry and hands-on art making at this time-honored community gathering.   • Opening Reception, The Art of Christmas: New Mexico Style

    5 pm to 7 pm Join us for the opening reception for the exhibition The Art of Christmas: New Mexico Style, featuring approximately 430 handmade ornaments by more than 125 New Mexican artists that have been collected by the Duran family (Matt, Jeanette, and their son Gabriel) over nearly 20 years. Matt and Jeanette began collecting Christmas ornaments in 2000 and there first tree was only 4 feet tall.
