SUMMARY:AfroMundo Festival: Together We Heal: A Community Healing Circle
DESCRIPTION:2:00 – 4:00 pm \nNHCC | Salon Ortega \nSacred Spring Reiki Collective will lead a healing circle for community members and organizers at the 2025 AfroMundo Festival: Troubled Territories—The Will to Heal.  This session will bring people together to heal in community; reminding us that we are all connected and are stronger and wiser together. We don’t have to face our fears or problems alone.  Communally\, we can overcome great challenges. Together We Heal will help to calm the mind through the practice of intentional breathing\, gentle movement\, and reiki energy healing so that we can tap into the deep well of ancestral wisdom we each carry within and thus access our inner resources and gifts. \nReiki practitioners and community healers will join efforts to create a sanctuary of safety and calmness in which participants can take a break to relax and renew. We will open the circle with a gently guided QiGong/Yoga flow to get into our bodies\, followed by Reiki Practitioners moving around the circle sharing reiki energy through their hands\, which are placed gently on your head\, shoulders and heart area to help you attain a deep state of relaxation. During the reiki healing we will offer a guided meditation and sound bath. We will close the circle with time to reflect and share your experience. The total time in the healing circle is 120 minutes. \n* The format of this session is inspired by Freedom to Heal\, a healing program that many groups of people have experienced throughout the years and in different community settings. In this group different healing modalities are used to create a community space of safety and healing. Participants in these circles report having received great benefits by healing together with other community members. \nFree community event. Limited availability

SUMMARY:Festival Flamenco Alburquerque: Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía: Pineda
DESCRIPTION:8:30 pm \nNHCC | Albuquerque Journal Theatre \nNational Institute of Flamenco and the NHCC present Festival Flamenco Alburquerque: Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía: “PINEDA.” Federico García Lorca wrote Mariana Pineda “at barely twenty years old and with a strong romantic flavor\,” as he stated in an interview after its first premiere. However\, the origins of the play trace back to the poet’s childhood in Granada and young Federico’s encounter with the bronze statue of the liberal heroine\, “proud upon the column\, her hair loose\, her gaze fixed on the sky\, clutching the flag of liberty against her body.” Lorca also recalled himself holding hands with other children\, singing the verses of a popular ballad “in a melancholic tone\, which seemed tragic to me.” Early in his career as a playwright\, the poet felt the poetic imperative to transform that “profound childhood impression” into a theatrical work. \n“There are a thousand different Marianas of Pineda. The heroic Mariana\, the motherly Mariana\, the Mariana in love\, the embroidering Mariana\, but I wasn’t going to ‘create’ them all.” This is how Federico García Lorca described his protagonist after the 1927 premiere of the play. Among all these possible Marianas\, we have chosen to focus on the one Lorca himself evoked: “a woman of deep Spanish roots\, who sings of love and freedom in the verses of her life in a way that captures the universal essence of these two great sentiments\,” embodying “freedom itself.” \nIn her debut as Artistic Director of the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía\, Granada-born Patricia Guerrero takes on the challenge of giving body and soul to Pineda. This version explores the full spiritual and expressive power of Lorca’s dramatic poem. Accompanied by an exceptional team\, Patricia Guerrero delivers a vibrant and electrifying Pineda\, both rooted in Granada and universal\, and unequivocally flamenco. A dramatic poem brought to life through dance because\, in Federico’s own words\, “the stage can only be emotion and poetry: in the word\, in the action\, and in the gesture.” \n$69\, $83\, $99\, $113 & $129. *Price includes the NHCC’s $4 fee. \n\n*All NHCC performance/event ticket sales go through the National Hispanic Cultural Center Website. NHCC is a division of New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs. SUMMARY:Festival Flamenco Alburquerque: Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía: Tierra Bendita
DESCRIPTION:8:30 pm \nNHCC | Albuquerque Journal Theatre \nNational Institute of Flamenco and the NHCC present Festival Flamenco Alburquerque: Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía: “Tierra Bendita.” From Andalusia\, the birthplace of Flamenco\, Tierra Bendita presents a journey through the picturesque landscapes of this southern Spanish region\, showcasing its most iconic songs and dances. This production bridges tradition and modernity\, blending 18th-century aesthetics with contemporary art. \nTierra Bendita unveils a flamenco world without restraint\, celebrating the new generation of creators while revealing the artist’s raw essence to the audience. Directed by Patricia Guerrero\, recipient of Spain’s National Dance Award in 2021\, and performed by the Andalusian Flamenco Ballet\, the piece is a masterful work rich in detail. It reimagines structures while respecting traditional forms\, offering a multidisciplinary experience where every element stands strong on its own yet contributes seamlessly to the whole. \n$69\, $83\, $99\, $113 & $129. *Price includes the NHCC’s $4 fee. \n\n*All NHCC performance/event ticket sales go through the National Hispanic Cultural Center Website.
