Each gathering in this series will focus on a different cultural aspect of the question: “Who or what is Latinidad?” Voces de Latinidad aims to feature unique voices from our community culminating in a short documentary and digital archive celebrating the rich diversity of our lived experiences. \nOn July 8\, we invite all people of Hispanic\, Latina/o/e/x\, Chicana/o/e/x\, Indigenous\, and New Mexican heritage from the communities of Barelas\, Atrisco\, the greater South Valley\, and surrounding neighborhoods to come and share how you identify culturally and how this shapes your reality and lived experiences. \nFree Community Event. Please register using the link below. \n \nSpeaker: A native of the Dominican Republic\, Loida Maritza Pérez is an independent scholar\, cultural activist and author of Geographies of Home\, a novel published in the United States and abroad. Her upcoming book\, Beyond the Pale\, won a PEN America 2019 Jean Stein Grant for Literary Oral History. DESCRIPTION:11:00 am (MST) \nThe National Hispanic Cultural Center is offering a guided tour of the Mundos de Mestizaje fresco created by artist Frederico Vigil. Tours of the fresco are offered Thursdays and Fridays at 11am. Located in the Torreón on the NHCC Campus\, Mundos de Mestizaje depicts thousands of years of Hispanic culture\, history\, and identity. \nAdmission for the tour is $2 and tickets are available for advance purchase below. Tickets can also be purchased in the New Mexico Mutual Welcome Center\, depending on availability. Capacity for each tour is limited. \nA Vision of History through Fresco… \nMundos de Mestizaje by Frederico Vigil is a mural housed in the Torreón on the campus of the National Hispanic Cultural Center. This monumental fresco depicts thousands of years of Hispanic history highlighting diverse cultural connections between people and places from the Iberian Peninsula to the Americas. The 4\,000 square foot painting is one of the largest frescos in North America. \nThe digitized imagery of the painting ensures that this culturally significant work can be a sharing and learning experience for students and families anywhere.
