History and Literary Arts Building6 pm This talk is part of the educational programming related to People Powered: New Mexicans and Social Movements. Aaron Dixon is the former captain of the Black Panther Party, Seattle Chapter. In Oakland, he worked in the BPP National Headquarters for six years as an assistant to Elaine Brown and Huey P. Newton. For 25 years, he worked for gang-involved and homeless youth. In 2006, he ran for the U.S. Senate as a Green Party candidate. He has traveled to Palestine with the African Heritage Delegation. After decades of partial musical obscurity due to the U.S. embargo on the island, the international audience was once again regaled with the sounds of a pre-1959, pre-communist Cuba.
