Film: A palabra xusta/La palabra justa
NHCC-Newsletter-November-2-307 pm In August, the Center continues its partnership with Instituto Cervantes to present films in the organization’s current Espacio femenino series. Instituto Cervantes has offered this series since 2010, presenting contemporary work by women filmmakers and focusing on women’s concerns and issues. A palabra xusta is a game invented by a teacher for her students, in which each child writes, in one word, what s/he has learned in that day’s class. Festival Ballet Albuquerque: Sacred Journeys II
Roy E. Disney Center for Performing Arts: Albuquerque Journal Theatre 1701 4th St SW, Albuquerque, NMSaturday, at 7 pm Sunday at 2 pm Classical and contemporary dance combine with the eclectic music of two-time Grammy award-winning Taos Pueblo musician Robert Mirabal in this reflection of New Mexican cultures through dance, music, and spoken word. Mirabal collaborates with internationally renowned New York City Ballet dancer Jock Soto, of Navajo and Puerto Rican descent; Soto, who is originally from Gallup, NM, and will also make guest appearances onstage, now lives in Eagle Nest, NM. Film: La Nana/The Maid
NHCC-Newsletter-November-2-306 pm Please note that a pre-screening conversation about the film, led by Dr. Elizabeth Hutchison, will begin at this time. The film will be shown at 7 pm Raquel has worked as a live-in, uniformed maid for a well-to-do family in Santiago, Chile for over 20 years. Now 41, she is part of the family in some ways, as emotional attachments—both positive and negative—attest, but in others remains apart, even expendable.
