DESCRIPTION:Art Museum hours and prices HERE \n¡Aquí Estamos: The Heart of Arte! celebrates the NHCC Art Museum’s growing permanent collection with a revitalized vibe and a brand new selection of works. This exhibition was a collaborative project as the entire NHCC Visual Arts staff and interns combed through the collection and worked together to decide which pieces should welcome in 2017. This sampling explores the contributions of these artists and how each work can serve as a reminder of the heart that thrives in strong and resilient communities. \nThe collection contains over 2\,500 artworks by Hispanic\, Chicana/o\, and Latina/o\, artists from around the globe most of which have been generously donated to the museum by artists and collectors. It reflects the diversity of Latina/o art and expression in all of its vibrancy\, creativity\, pointed humor and social consciousness. The National Hispanic Cultural Center Art Museum exists to support and engage the work of these artists and share their creations and their stories with the broader community.

DESCRIPTION:This exciting exhibit features approximately fifty works of art from the Joyce Kaser Collection. Southwest of Eden: The Art of Adam and Eve examines the various ways in which New Mexican artists and others visually portray these two famous figures as well as the flora and fauna in their surroundings.  For example\, how many apples are featured\, or are they pomegranates? Is the serpent male or female? Is it animal or human\, or half and half? Is Eve always the instigator or is Adam assuming some responsibility? Situated in the NHCC Art Museum’s highly popular community gallery\, Southwest of Eden invites the visitor to take a closer look at the imagery\, symbolism and story of what happened in the garden.

DESCRIPTION:Call for Entries! Día de los Muertos Community Ofrenda Exhibit 2019 \nEach year the National Hispanic Cultural Center works with schools and community organizations to host an exhibit of ofrendas (altars) in celebration of Día de los Muertos \nOfrendas will be placed in the Domenici Education Building and the Roy E. Disney Performing Arts Center. Due to limited availability\, the NHCC cannot accommodate all requests for tables. Please plan to provide your own tables\, boxes or structure for your altar\, and additional desired supplies. The NHCC reserves the right to review all submissions to ensure their alignment with the NHCC mission. If you are unable to create an ofrenda\, the NHCC has a community ofrenda that you are welcome to contribute items in remembrance of your loved ones.  Keep in mind we are not responsible for any items that are lost or stolen. DESCRIPTION:2:30 pm \nYou are invited to a special lecture and presentation! \nSpeaker:  Marta Turok \nTitle: Huipiles and Mexican Indigenous Textiles: Technique and Evolution \nSuggested donation of $5.00  goes to help support programs like this at the National Hispanic Cultural Center Art Museum! \nPlease join the National Hispanic Cultural Center Art Museum in welcoming Marta Turok\, renown expert in  Mexican textiles to Albuquerque.  Marta Turok lives in Mexico and has worked in government agencies and non-governmental organizations such as the National Indigenous Institute\, the Department of Popular Cultures\, (which she headed from 1986-1988) and FONART\, the Federal Fund for Crafts Development. Her work has focused on cultural revival and empowerment\, specializing in folk art and crafts with an environmental focus. She has taught at various universities\, worked as curator of national and international exhibits\, written dozens of books and articles and was the founding president of AMACUP\, the Mexican Association of Folk Art and Culture\, a pioneer organization in crafts development in Mexico.  She is currently she is Curator for the Ruth D. Lechuga Center for Folk Art Studies at the Franz Mayer Museum\, in Mexico City. In 2006-2007 she was invited to catalog Frida Kahlo’s wardrobe guarded in her bathroom for 50 years and wrote the main essay for the book Self-portrait in a Velvet Dress\, used by the curators of London’s Victoria and Albert Museum’s exhibit\, Frida Kahlo: Making Herself Up.
