  • Piñata Artist Justin Favela Creates an Installation Piece This Week

    Working in the media of painting, sculpture, performance, and, most importantly, piñatas, Justin draws from art history, popular culture, and his Guatemalan/Mexican heritage. His work has been exhibited across the United States in notable shows at venues including the Petersen Automotive Museum and the Denver Art Museum.   • Mundos de Mestizaje

    12 pm to 5 pm A Vision of History through Fresco… Mundos de Mestizaje by Frederico Vigil is a mural housed in the Torreón on the campus of the National Hispanic Cultural Center. This monumental fresco depicts thousands of years of Hispanic history highlighting diverse cultural connections between people and places from the Iberian Peninsula to the Americas. Lalo is the author of the comic La Cucaracha, a nationally syndicated, politically themed Latino daily comic strip, and was a consulting producer and writer on the animated show Bordertown.     5 pm to 7 pm Join us for the opening reception for the exhibition The Art of Christmas: New Mexico Style, featuring approximately 430 handmade ornaments by more than 125 New Mexican artists that have been collected by the Duran family (Matt, Jeanette, and their son Gabriel) over nearly 20 years. Matt and Jeanette began collecting Christmas ornaments in 2000 and there first tree was only 4 feet tall.
