Many of these artists were part of past exhibitions or have pieces of art in our permanent collection. \nOn the first Thursday of the month\, NHCC invites adults for artistic fun in a relaxed social setting\, which includes snacks\, refreshments\, and beer & wine for sale from Pop Fizz. Participants will create simple drawings or write ideas based on a variety of themes to create an image bank for a dream mural at the NHCC. Meet artist Joe Stephenson who has a long history at the NHCC as a set and art museum exhibit designer. Stephenson has worked worldwide creating murals and public art. \nMuseum Scavenger Hunt & Bingo (Art Museum) \nEnjoy a self-guided tour in the museum and use one or more of the provided worksheets to enhance your experience. This activity is fun for all ages\, and encourages slow looking! \nPlay with Clay (Visual Arts Building) \nAll three museum exhibits contain ceramic pieces of art. Can you find them? Search the museum for inspiration and afterwards try your hand at creating a small sculpture or pot out of air dry clay that is yours to keep! \nThis Color is Bugging Me! (Visual Arts Building) \nCreate a small painting in this mini version of our Cochineal workshop. Participants will use ground up beetles and a variety of liquids to create paint that will be used on water color paper. Your creation is yours to keep! \nTeeny Piñata (Visual Arts Building) \nCan you make a Piñata that can fit in the palm of your hand? Inspired by one of NHCC’s most popular past exhibits\, “The Piñata Exhibit: Sure to be a Smash Hit!” and the work of the Little Piñata Maker\, participants will make a tiny piñata out of card stock and tissue paper that can be used to wear or hang in your car\, the artist’s original inspiration. \nTour the Albuquerque Journal Theater (Performing Arts Building) \nJoin this tour for an exciting glance at what takes place behing the scenes! You will play with positive and negative shapes to construct simple but amazing still life collages and surreal self-portraits. Micaela will introduce you to one of her favorite pastimes; the “glue-draw-glue” technique and we will go beyond ready-made collage papers and make some of our own.  Come away with new approaches as well as something intriguing to hang on the wall. \n“We are inundated with images. Find the ones that resonate with you and infuse them with new life by making them your own. Collage invites you to alter what you see\, rearrange it\, add to it. Your creations are your children. SUMMARY:Incubation: Art Created in the COVID-19 Era
DESCRIPTION:Incubation: Art Created in the COVID-19 Era\, is an online exhibit of artwork created by Albuquerque High School students under the direction of four teachers. The work was created at the end of the spring semester\, after schools closed across New Mexico in response to the COVID-19 crisis. \n \nPrior to school closures and the closure of the NHCC campus\, the AHS students and teachers were scheduled to hang an exhibit in the Pete Domenici Education Building on the NHCC. The students were working on completely different projects at that time and what you see here reflects their transition into online art instruction and the students’ reflections on this dramatic and sudden shift. Many artworks were submitted for this online exhibit and what is presented here is just a small sampling of the creativity that has taken place since March.\, \nDuring this time\, the teachers focused intently on how to continue supporting their students through these new challenges. There were many emotions about how the school year ended so abruptly and about the continued need for social distancing. Yet\, something magical also happened. The students created so much artwork in their homes that it needed to be shared and shown to others. The artwork demonstrates resourcefulness and creativity that is inspiring. There was so much artwork\, that we were only able to show a portion of it. \nIMPORTANT message to all the students!  All of the art created\, whether shown here or not\, is amazing! Please\, don’t stop creating. You are teaching the rest of the world about resilience and resourcefulness. \nTo all the teachers\, thank you! You all have been challenged in many ways. Your dedication to your students is evident in the honesty of your statements and the varied projects shown. You have not only taught craftsmanship but life skills. Through the lengthy and complicated process of transitioning to an online exhibit\, it is evident that your capacity for care and hard work is unwavering. Many of these artists were part of past exhibitions or have pieces of art in our permanent collection. \nOn the first Thursday of the month\, NHCC invites adults for artistic fun in a relaxed social setting\, which includes snacks\, refreshments\, and beer & wine for sale from Pop Fizz. This is a great opportunity for friends to hang out\, a unique date night option\, or a place to come solo and connect with fellow art enthusiasts. \nOn June 4\, Jocelyn Salas will join us again for a Mixed Media Project! \nPlease pre-register HERE (so we know how many materials to prepare).
