    6 pm to 8 pm Each spring, New Mexico communities celebrate San Ysidro (aka San Isidro or Saint Isidore) the patron saint of farmers, gardeners, and workers. San Ysidro blesses the fields, brings rain and discourages drought, and assures a healthy growing season for local crops such as chile, beans, corn and squash.   • Opening Reception for The Piñata Exhibit (Sure to be a Smash Hit!)

    6 pm to 8 pm The Piñata Exhibit (Sure to be a Smash Hit!) celebrates this popular art form with over 175 examples from Mexico, California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas and New Mexico. Traditional and iconic works, alongside creations by contemporary piñata artists, illustrate how piñatas maintain their historical and social importance while also reflecting transnational shifts in popular, political, and visual culture.   • Piñata Artist Justin Favela Creates an Installation Piece This Week

    Working in the media of painting, sculpture, performance, and, most importantly, piñatas, Justin draws from art history, popular culture, and his Guatemalan/Mexican heritage. His work has been exhibited across the United States in notable shows at venues including the Petersen Automotive Museum and the Denver Art Museum.     12 pm to 5 pm A Vision of History through Fresco… Mundos de Mestizaje by Frederico Vigil is a mural housed in the Torreón on the campus of the National Hispanic Cultural Center. This monumental fresco depicts thousands of years of Hispanic history highlighting diverse cultural connections between people and places from the Iberian Peninsula to the Americas.
