Arte Para Chiquitos
Domenici Education Building 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM10:00 – 10:45 am Arte para chiquitos is a free, monthly, 45-minute program for babies and toddlers ages 0 months to 4 years and their caregivers that cultivates creativity and self-expression through the exploration of Hispanic/Latine arts and culture. Participants explore the NHCC Museum, Performing Arts Center, and engage in artmaking, music, movement, dance, drama, and bilingual story time. NHCC instructors model age-appropriate arts techniques that celebrate self-expression, build vocabulary, and strengthen both fine-motor and gross-motor skills in a fun environment. Stitch Night
HLA Conference Room 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM5:00 to 7:00 pm Stitch socially with us on the second Wednesday of the Month! Bring whatever knitting, crocheting, weaving, or cross stitch, or fiber art projects you’re working on, and join the conversation with your fellow crafters for an informal craft get-together. If you would like to learn the basics of a particular stitching technique, please bring supplies with you, though we will always have basic crochet and knitting materials on hand for an impromptu demonstration! Re-Scheduled: Siempre Creativo: Intro to Retablos with Artist Sean Wells y Delgado
Salón Ortega 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM1:30 – 3:30 pm Discover the history and symbolism of retablo painting and create your own unique interpretation, using watercolors on wood prepared with traditional gesso. This is the second of two sessions with artist Sean Wells y Delgado, and participants are welcomed to attend one or both sessions. These workshops are part of the NHCC’s Siempre Creativo program, which provides free multidisciplinary arts programs for seniors throughout the summer. Colcha Community Stitch A-Long
Domenici Education Building 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM9:30 am in-person 10:30 am Zoom Our Colcha Community Stich-A-Long is open to all levels of experience in an informal setting. This workshop is instructed by Annette Gutierrez-Turk. Annette has taught colcha, a Spanish Colonial embroidery style, to groups internationally and at the NHCC for many years. She is also an award-winning artist, most recently recognized in 2019 at Traditional Spanish Market in Santa Fe. Annette will demonstrate as well as answer questions. Grand Hall1:30 - 3:30 pm NHCC | Pete Domenici Education Building: Grand Hall Gelli Plate/Monotype is considered the painter’s print. A basic printmaking process in which an image is created by rolling or painting with inks directly onto a plate and printed onto paper. Usually only one impression is pulled. In this workshop, we will explore various ways of applying inks and paints to create unique images. Happy Arte Hour: Featuring Gelli Plate/Monotype with Artist Carol C. Sánchez
Domenici Education Building 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM6:00 pm Our December 5th Happy Arte Hour will feature Artist Carol C. Sanchez and Gelli Plate/Monotype Printmaking. Gelli Plate/Monotype is a basic printmaking process in which an image is created by rolling or painting with ink or paints directly onto a plate and printed onto paper. We will be using gelli plates, which have many possibilities and can be used with a variety of media such as ink pads, watercolor and acrylic paints. Grand Hall1:30 - 3:30 pm NHCC | Pete Domenici Education Building: Grand Hall Relief/Lino-cut printmaking is one of the oldest and most basic printmaking processes. The image is printed from a raised surface, in which the non-image areas have been carved out. Examples include wood block and Lino-cut.
