    7 pm Pilar Pérez Solano’s 2013 documentary pays homage to unsung heroes—the many women, mainly primary school teachers, who worked to bring about a more just and equitable society in the brief years of the Second Republic of Spain. Representing a new generation of Spanish women, they were educated and trained together with the men to be the teachers needed by a new Spain.   • First Friday: Docent Education and Conversation

    9:30 am – noon On the first Friday of each month, NHCC docents and core volunteers meet for coffee and conversation along with monthly presentations on topics that build the knowledge and skills of the docent core to give tours, educate the NHCC visitors and share the NHCC mission and programs.     6 pm to 8 pm Join artist and curator Janire Nájera for the opening of her exhibition Moving Forward, Looking Back: Journeys Across the Old Spanish Trail, which explores Spanish heritage in the United States Southwest via the Old Spanish Trail, a route that linked the colonial outposts of New Mexico and California.   • ¡Vamos al Museo!

    10:30 am - 12:30 pm This is a fun and engaging docent and artist-led family program.  Families (limited to 25 participants) get a 30-minute museum tour focused on an art form, source inspiration, artist or type of material.  Following the tour, the whole family can create their own artwork in the Pete V. Domenici Education Building Messy Classroom. April's guest artist will be Catalina Salinas exploring storytelling through images, inspired by our new exhibition Moving Forward, Looking Back: Journeys Along the Old Spanish Trail.   • Introduction to Flamenco Dance, taught by Bridgit Luján

    7:15 pm to 8:15 pm Students will learn basic flamenco technique and a short choreography.  No experience required; men and women of all ages and ability are welcome! $10 suggested donation Bridgit (Brigida) Luján began studying dance at the age of two, and earned a Master’s degree in dance from the University of New Mexico. After performing under the direction of Eva Encinias, Lili del Castillo, Pablo Rodarte, and Antonio Hidalgo, she joined Maria Benitez’ Estampa Española in 2000.
