¡HAH! Happy Arte Hour

5:30 pm - 7:30 pm On the first Thursday of the month, NHCC invites adults for artistic fun in a relaxed social setting, which includes snacks, refreshments, and beer & wine for sale from Pop Fizz.  This is a great opportunity for friends to hang out, a unique date night option, or a place to come solo and connect with fellow art enthusiasts. 10:30 am -- 12 pm The National Hispanic Cultural Center is pleased to offer children’s programming on Saturday mornings during June, July, and half of August, from 10:30 am to noon. Families can come to the Center for hands-on art activities, bilingual sing-alongs, outdoor activities in the bosque, and story times in the Center’s library. For Vamos al Museo on June 4th, in honor of the National Institute of Flamenco’s Festival Flamenco Internacional, we’ll work with tile mosaics in the Spanish tradition. Festival Flamenco Internacional: Exposición Flamenca & New Mexico True Fiesta de Apertura

6 pm Festival Flamenco Internacional de Alburquerque, celebrating its 29th anniversary this year, opens with Exposición Flamenca and New Mexico True Fiesta de Apertura—free events for the entire family on the NHCC's Plaza Mayor. This celebratory start to the festival, presented by New Mexico True and the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs, begins with Exposición Flamenca, a showcase of flamenco artists and schools from around the world.  The evening culminates in a concert by Mayte Martín, a cantaora, bolero singer, and composer from Barcelona who is widely (more...)

Festival Flamenco Internacional: Compañía Manuel Liñán, Nómada

8 pm Festival Flamenco Internacional de Alburquerque presents Compañía Manuel Liñán in Nómada. Featuring three bailaoras, three bailaores, three singers, and two guitarists, the work is a “collective journey” framing the art of flamenco in different geographic regions and different textures. It develops Liñan’s work as a choreographer, director, and dancer—exploring the different worlds that sustain him on his diverse paths. Book Reading & Signing, The Spirit of Flamenco: From Spain to New Mexico

2 pm Author and curator Nicolasa Chavez will host a book reading and signing of her beautiful, opulently illustrated book The Spirit of Flamenco: From Spain to New Mexico. Chispa: Latin Diva Series, Las Migas

7:30 pm Formed as a flamenco quartet in Barcelona in 2004, Las Migas now performs a repertoire of “Mediterranean music,” including lively Latin rhythms and pensive ballads. The members, Alba Carmona, Marta Robles, Alicia Grillo and Roser Loscos, come from four cities spanning both the geography of Spain and its cultural diversity—Barcelona, Sevilla, Córdova and Lérida. Festival Ballet Albuquerque Presents The Nutcracker Ballet in the Land of Enchantment
