1st Annual Luminito Celebration

7:00 to 8:15 pm Plaza Mayor | National Hispanic Cultural Center Whether you call them ‘farolitos’ or ‘luminarias,’ come celebrate New Mexico’s distinctive holiday lights at the Center! On Dec. 12, join us for a holiday celebration illuminated by the world’s tallest ‘Luminito,’ a 20-foot-tall, steel-reinforced structure inspired by New Mexico’s traditional holiday lights. Acequia Revitalization Project Unveiling

12:00 - 1:00 pm The National Hispanic Cultural Center and New Mexico Arts are proud to unveil a public art project transforming a concrete planter on NHCC’s campus into a dynamic, three-dimensional mosaic inspired by New Mexico’s acequias. The Acequia Revitalization Project will be revealed to the public on Friday, Dec. 13.  Acequias are the lifeblood of New Mexico, NHCC and NMA are proud to honor the generations of New Mexican men and women who use acequias to grow crops and feed their communities. The beloved holiday classic is transported to territorial New Mexico in the late 1800s, with added elements of the state’s heritage and traditions including Spanish dancers, southwestern snakes, sheep and shepherdesses, a lively fandango, a storyteller doll with children, and lavish western Victorian-era costumes. Featuring Clay Hilley & Sara Duchovnay Close out 2024 and begin 2025 with featured performers tenor Clay Hilley and soprano Sara Duchovnay. Clay Hilley makes an exciting return to Opera Southwest after his stunning portrayal of Radamès in “Aida” back in 2015. East Mountain Dance: Cinderella!

Cinderella, a young woman who is mistreated and underestimated by her stepmother and stepsisters, overcomes adversity and hardship with a little encouragement, guidance, and magic from her mystical Fairy Godmother. Colcha Community Stitch A-Long

9:30 am (MST) on the 4th Tuesday of each month Our Colcha community Workshop is open to all levels of experience in an informal setting. This workshop is instructed by Annette Gutierrez-Turk. Annette has taught this art form to groups internationally and at the NHCC for many years. She is also an award-winning artist, most recently recognized in 2019 at Santa Fe Spanish Market.
