    History and Literary Arts Building

    Camina el Autor showcases the extraordinary work of Guaman Poma; explores the history of the indigenous people of Peru, Andean civilization, and Spanish conquest; and broadens our understanding of Peruvian culture and history.The digital images and accompanying texts have been provided to the NHCC by the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with assistance from the Consulate General of Peru in Denver. The NHCC has curated these (398 fullpage drawings) to present a vibrant and informative exhibit that encourages learning, discovery, and contemplation.   • La Canoa – Giving Baque: On Hemispheric Indigeneities and the Southern Border of New Mexico

    2 pm - 4 pm Building on and departing from the work of interethnic thought-leaders in New Mexico, Dr. Gregorio Gonzales will consider how competing logics of settler-statecraft and Native American nationhood operate in a place of both Native- and nuevomexicanx-led struggles for political autonomy and religious liberty. The current humanitarian crisis along New Mexico’s southern border demonstrates the urgency of Indigenous transnational existences as they transit and transgress the political integrities of settlerstates and tribal nations alike.   • National Hispanic Cultural Center Holiday Hours

    The NHCC Visual Arts Museum and NHCC Library will be closed Wednesday, December 25th and Wednesday, January 1st but will otherwise maintain normal operating hours. The Performing Arts Box Office will be closed Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday, December 23rd, 24th & 25th and have special holiday hours of 12 pm to 5 pm Thursday, Friday and Saturday, December 26th 27th and 28th. Closed Sunday and Monday, December 29th and 30th but open on Tuesday, December 31st from 10 am to 5 pm. Closed on Wednesday, January 1st. (more...)

    Friday, January 24, 2020 6 pm Join us for the opening of “El Voto Femenino: Sufragistas Latinas luchando por el derecho al voto. Celebrating Hispanic Women’s Suffrage Worldwide”. This exhibit, which will run from January 24 through June 30.     The National Hispanic Cultural Center’s History and Literary Arts Program presents a new exhibit, “El voto femenino: Sufragistas Latinas luchando por el derecho al voto/The Women’s Vote: Latina Suffragists who Fought for the Right to Vote” which opens on Friday, January 24, 2020, and runs through June 30, 2020. There will be a free opening reception on Friday, January 24, 2020, from 6-8 pm in the historic History and Literary Arts (HLA) Building on the NHCC campus, where the exhibit is on display.     February 2, 7 & 9, 2020 2 pm—Sundays 7:30 pm—Friday Opera Southwest presents Daniel Catán’s Il Postino, a fully staged opera with orchestra, sung in Spanish with both Spanish and English translation supertitles, and presented in two acts with one intermission. Presented in partnership with the National Hispanic Cultural Center, Il Postino is based on the novel Ardiente Paciencia by Antonio Skármeta, as well as the film by Michael Radford.
