History and Literary Arts Building6 pm The La Canoa Legacy Series features talks by Hispanic/Latino academic and community researchers with long-standing and distinguished records of research and teaching about New Mexico and the region. September-2019-Board-Meeting-Minutes5:30 pm to 7:30 pm The National Hispanic Cultural Center Art Museum will be opening a new, bilingual exhibition entitled The House on Mango Street: Artist Interpret Community, on April 29, 2016, with a free, public opening from 6-8pm. Organized by the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago and curated by NMMA’s Visual Arts Director and Chief Curator Cesáreo Moreno, the exhibition features art works inspired by the classic novel The House on Mango Street, first published in 1984 by award-winning author Sandra Cisneros. REZILIENCE 2016—Indigenous Arts Experience
9 am—Gates Open 5 pm—Main Concert REZILIENCE—Indigenous Arts Experience is an immersive, all-ages experience that focuses on modern Indigenous art processes. Artists include both nationally and locally recognized entertainers, muralists, multimedia artists, and poets. More than sixty Indigenous artists and art-related professionals representing the U.S., Canada, and Latin America will participate during the full-day event, sharing their talents, skills, and knowledge in eight creative arenas. Families (limited to 25 participants) get a 30-minute museum tour focused on an art form, source inspiration, artist or type of material. Following the tour, the whole family can create their own artwork in the Pete V. Domenici Education Building Messy Classroom.
