New Mexico Folk Dance Classes For Seniors
PNM Rehearsal Hall 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM, United States1:30 to 3:30 pm New Mexico Folk Dance for Seniors will feature four weeks of traditional New Mexican folk dance lessons, including the traditional La Marcha dance, taught by instructor Lucy Salazar. Classes run for four consecutive Wednesdays in October and November, from 1:30 to 3:30 pm. On the day of the final class, live music will be provided by La Rondalla for a fun-filled dance fiesta! Among the materials deposited in its warehouses were 260 rolls of 16 mm photo negatives. They were the leftovers of the editing, footage that was left out of the final version. The forgotten images of a banned film come to life on the screen after forty years in Descartes. (more...)

A musical adaptation of Frank Baum’s classic tale: The Wonderful Wizard of OZ. The story starts with a cyclone that carries Dorothy and Toto to the magical Land of Oz. When Dorothy’s house squashes the Wicked Witch of the East, she is ecstatically thanked by the liberated Munchkins and given permission to wear the witch’s powerful sliver slippers. We will show 30 minutes total of Uphill on the Hill and Hardliner on the Hudson. They are unreleased. Both docs are 30-40 minutes each but given an hour 20 minutes is generally too long for audiences; we'll show abridged and polished 15-minute segments of each. In Uphill on the Hill, award -winning Cuban journalist Liz Olivia Fernandez travels to Washington D.C., where she exposes the political interests driving the U.S. government’s Cold War-era policy toward Cuba. Natural architectures, still-lifes, spaces of green lights and absolute browns. Filmmaker Lucía Vilela explores the texture of the cut wood, the tiles on the roofs of the houses, the tops of the trees that follow the cadence of the drums of Mociños de Igrexafeita (1971), a popular song that favors an atmosphere of rhythms sheltered by the texture of the celluloid.
