The controversial themes of rebellion\, immorality\, and the tragic death of the main character shocked French audiences when it was initially performed. The opera’s popularity and the main character’s notoriety left lasting impressions on audiences for decades. \nThe tale revolves around a passionate love triangle between Carmen\, a seductive cigarette girl\, Don Jose\, a solider\, and Escamillo\, a handsome bullfighter. Despite Don Jose’s efforts to resist her charms\, he succumbs to Carmen’s enchantment\, resulting in his downfall and Carmen’s demise. \n$22\, $42\, $63\, $85\, $105 with discounts for groups of 8 or more\, anyone 30 years old and younger and Opera for All with a WIC or EBT card. \n \nThe presentation of Carmen will be in Spanish. The translation\, by Eduardo de Bray\, dates back to 1904 and comes from a Barcelona zarzuela company. \nRunning time: 2 hours 30 minutes\, including one intermission.

This incredible film was created by Bold Futures and seven system-impacted women: we bring light to complexities of trauma\, substance use\, and parenting in this raw and riveting story. \nIn 2017 Bold Futures NM resourced seven system-impacted women to create a story that explored the complexities of trauma\, substance use\, and parenting in New Mexico. SUMMARY:East Mountain Dance: Recital 2024: The Wizard of Oz!
DESCRIPTION:12:00 pm\, 3:00 pm\, & 6:00 pm \nEast Mountain Dance presents our 2024 end-of-year recital\, fully costumed\, and performed on one of the best stages in NM! Broken into three unique performances\, the studio’s classes will all have the opportunity to perform for friends\, family\, and the community. \nPlease check with your student PRIOR to purchasing tickets as most classes and students will perform in ONLY one (1) of the three (3) shows on May 25th. The first two shows (12pm and 3pm) will be approximately 1 hour each\, with no intermissions\, and will be geared towards our younger students and their families. Our final show of the day (6pm) will be our older showcase. This will be geared towards our older students and their families\, will include a brief intermission\, and will wrap up with a final performance by this year’s EMD Amethyst Dance Team of this season’s competition choreography. These shows are open to the public and we thank everyone for supporting youth/adolescent development and arts education! \nThere is nothing like performing on stage\, and we hope all of our students\, friends\, family\, and community will join us in celebrating a wonderful year of dance and growth! \n$14\, $17\, $20\, and $25. w/ $2 discount for children and seniors. \nPlease note\, the run time for the 12:00 pm and the 3:00 pm performance will be approximately 1-hour and the 6:00 pm performance will be the full 2-hour performance. \n* The event is a rental event not an NHCC production. DESCRIPTION:9:30 am in-person\n10:30 am Zoom \nOur Colcha Community Stich-A-Long is open to all levels of experience in an informal setting. This workshop is instructed by Annette Gutierrez-Turk. Annette has taught colcha\, a Spanish Colonial embroidery style\, to groups internationally and at the NHCC for many years. She is also an award-winning artist\, most recently recognized in 2019 at Traditional Spanish Market in Santa Fe. Annette will demonstrate as well as answer questions. Join us every month on the fourth Tuesday\, in-person at 9:30am and on Zoom at 10:30am. The artists whose work is featured in the exhibition use the street as their medium to create graffiti and/or murals.  On the street\, their work is widely accessible to passersby\, yet also ephemeral. The artists often know the cityscape intimately and their art is a significant marker of place.   \nConfluencia x Encrucijada: Arte Callejero del Sudoeste es un exposición en el Museo de Arte del Centro Nacional de Cultura Hispánica que muestra la vitalidad y perspicacia del mundo del arte callejero de Nuevo México\, Texas\, Arizona\, California y el norte de México que presenta obras de arte de artistas que se identifican como chicano/a/x\, latino/a/x\, indígena\, o indio americano. The artists whose work is featured in the exhibition use the street as their medium to create graffiti and/or murals.  On the street\, their work is widely accessible to passersby\, yet also ephemeral. The artists often know the cityscape intimately and their art is a significant marker of place.   \nConfluencia x Encrucijada: Arte Callejero del Sudoeste es un exposición en el Museo de Arte del Centro Nacional de Cultura Hispánica que muestra la vitalidad y perspicacia del mundo del arte callejero de Nuevo México\, Texas\, Arizona\, California y el norte de México que presenta obras de arte de artistas que se identifican como chicano/a/x\, latino/a/x\, indígena\, o indio americano. Las obras de los artistas de la exhibición utilizan la calle como medio para la creación de graffiti y/o murales. En la calle sus obras son fácilmente accesibles a los transeuntes\, y al mismo tiempo efímero. Muy a menudo los artistas conocen íntimamente el paisaje urbano y su arte es un marcador significativo de lugar.  \n \nThe exhibition depicts a cultural convergence of differing styles of street art from across the Southwestern United States and Northern Mexico including graffiti and murals. The exhibit will provide a unique opportunity for the NHCC to collaborate with artists and community members in new ways as we strive to illuminate the significance of this artform at home and throughout the Southwest. The exhibit will feature over 25 artists from across the Southwestern United States and Northern Mexico and open dialogue around street art from this era.    \n La exposición presenta la convergencia de culturas de distintos estilos de arte callejero del sudoeste de los Estados Unidos y el norte de México entre ellos el graffiti y los murales. La exhibición ofrecerá una oportunidad única para que el Centro Nacional de Cultura Hispánica pueda colaborar con artistas y miembros de la comunidad de nuevas maneras mientras tratamos de iluminar la importancia de esta forma de arte aquí y en otras partes del sudoeste. La exposición contará con más de 25 artistas de varios lugares del sudoeste y el norte de México e iniciará un diálogo sobre el arte callejero de esta época.

With authentic vérité storytelling woven between an interview-driven narrative\, STREET HEROINES  juxtaposes the personal experiences of three emerging Latina artists from New York City\, Mexico City\, and São Paulo as they navigate a male-dominated subculture to establish artistic identities within chaotic urban landscapes. \nToofly\, born in Ecuador and raised in Queens\, NY\, is determined to use her art to help others and embarks on a journey that leads her back to Ecuador after establishing a unique friendship with the first female of graffiti\, Lady Pink. Fusca\, a talented painter who moved to Mexico City inspired by its embrace of muralism\, becomes dismayed by the machinations behind the urban art scene and is forced to reanalyze her passion.
